Telluride vs. Palisade: Sister From Another Mister
Kia Telluride
With room for up to eight passengers (and seven in higher trims), the 2022 Kia Telluride offers plenty of passenger and cargo space. It offers a wide range of trims, from classy mainstream to value-packed near-luxury. The Telluride has been so good that it’s won both our 2021 Best Buy and Best 3-Row Midsize SUV awards over the past year. For 2022 it gets a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen as standard and additional standard features such as automatic climate control and Highway Driving Assist.
The ride quality is comfortable and agile for a large SUV, and the standard-issue adaptive cruise control with Highway Driving Assist makes long drives easy to manage. The system reads road signs and adjusts the speed as necessary. If you need to do a little offroading, the Telluride can handle it thanks to its 8 inches of ground clearance and available all-wheel drive.
Inside is ample space for adults (even in the third row). Seats are easy to access whether you have the second-row captain’s chairs or the standard bench seat, and the seats are stacked so that everyone in the back can see the road ahead — stadium style. This year, Driver Talk comes standard, which means you don’t have to scream to be heard in the back rows. A “quiet mode” also turns off the rear speakers when kids are sleeping.
The Telluride also boasts an impressive suite of standard safety systems. These include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warning, rear-occupant alert, and safe exit assist are also included.
Hyundai Palisade
The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is the Hyundai-branded twin to the Kia Telluride, though it’s a fraternal twin relationship, as the Palisade gets its own look, style, and equipment offerings, despite the shared mechanical and technical underpinnings.
A 3.8-liter V6 engine powers the 2022 Palisade, rated for 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. No other engines are available, nor is there a hybrid variant. All Palisades, whether front- or all-wheel drive, use an 8-speed automatic transmission with a push-button gear selector.
The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is largely unchanged from the previous model year, with only minor changes to trim configurations and color options. Side mirrors with turn indicators, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, and safe exit assist, previously available on SEL trims and higher, are now standard on all trims.
Inside, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade offers adult-friendly third-row seating, a fair amount of cargo space, and a choice between seating for eight, or second-row captain’s chairs that reduce the maximum occupant count to seven.
The interior’s design is modern and stylish, with nice-feeling soft-touch materials even in lower trims, and upscale materials available — Nappa leather in the Palisade Limited, or quilted leather and microsuede in the top-tier Calligraphy trim.
