Hyundai launched the all-new Ioniq 5 in India at the Auto Expo 2023 and it has now announced that the ‘N’ division is testing a high-performance Ioniq 5 N under extreme arctic winter conditions in Sweden. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is planned to make its global debut in July 2023 as the N brand’s first high-performance mass-production EV.
The Hyundai Mobis proving facility in Arjeplog, Sweden, is where the Ioniq 5 N is being tested in temperatures as low as negative 30 degrees Celsius. Winter testing will concentrate on low traction surfaces and the electric powertrain’s endurance in sub-zero temperatures. With a higher power output, the Ioniq 5 N is bound to have a shorter driving range than the basic model.
The Ioniq 5 N will be the first N brand car to be produced with all-wheel drive (AWD). The N brand’s AWD journey began in 2015, when he competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC). The ‘N Drift Optimizer’ will be included with the N badge on the Ioniq 5. This function will incorporate the torque distribution between the front and rear axles, suspension stiffness, steering effort, and the e-LSD, resulting in a specific drift mode.
The N division engineers developed the Ioniq 5 N’s E-dual-motor GMP’s design for exceptional performance in all driving situations, building on the all-surface AWD capabilities proven by the Hyundai i20 N WRC Rally 1 vehicle in Sweden.
The Ioniq 5 in India is powered by a 72.6kWh battery pack linked to a rear-axle mounted electric motor that delivers 217PS and 350Nm. It promises an ARAI-certified range of 631km. The car is priced at Rs 45.95 lakh.
On the inside, the Hyundai used sustainable materials for the upholstery and carpet. There is also a single panel that comprises a 12.25-inch driver display and a 12.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Hyundai has bestowed the Ioniq 5 with a host of features, such as an eight-speaker Bose sound system, dual-zone temperature control, hands-free tailgate, 360-degree camera, seven airbags, BlueLink connected car features, Vehicle-2-Load (V2L), and heads-up display with augmented reality function, among others.
