Toyota spoke too soon. After saying that Land Cruiser 300 production won’t be affected in the
latest round of production stoppages
, they’re now saying that its brand-new luxury SUV will indeed be affected.
In a statement, Toyota says a shortage of parts supply caused by the spread of COVID-19 at their suppliers in Japan is the culprit and because of that, they will have to stop 20 lines in 11 plants out of 28 lines in 14 plants all in all.
Thankfully, production of the Land Cruiser 300 as well as the Land Cruiser Prado, Hiace, and Alphard is only affected by a day. However, assembly plants that produce the GR Yaris and Lexus models such as the LS, IS, RC, and NX will suffer a three-day shutdown.
This announcement will no doubt add to the already
crazy wait list for the Land Cruiser 300
. Depending on the specification, the wait is already stretching to as much as four years.
