Attributes by grade
The basic Sportage S gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a full-size alloy spare (not something all competitors offer), a Safe Exit Warning system, LED headlights and taillights, fabric seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, digital device reading bases with a central TFT monitor , 8.0-inch touchscreen, Android Auto Wireless and Apple CarPlay, six speakers and a reverse camera.
Walking into the Sportage SX raises the wheels to 18 inches, adds bi-regional climate control, a leather gear lever, remote levers for folding the rear seats in the charging area, rain-fear wipers, and improves information and entertainment to a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Satellite navigation and digital radio. Android Auto / Apple CarPlay returns to the lines.
The leap into the SX + adds 19-inch wheels, luxuries like faux leather seats, heated front seat seats, motorized driver’s seat, automatic dimming rear view mirror, electric trunk door, dark private glass at the rear, ‘smart’ proximity key with button start , Propulsion guards and a better sound system with eight Harman Kardon speakers.
The latest jump to the GT-Line puts everything on the table, including machined alloy rims, a 12.3-inch curved instrument cluster, leather trim and faux suede; Front seats heated, cooled and activated; Dual LED headlights, cordless phone charger, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, alloy pedals and 3D perimeter camera.
The GT-Line is of course the most impressive and a good chance to make up the majority of sales (according to the Saltos and Sorrento), but for those with value the SX is a good balance, adding plenty of additional features for a reasonable $ 2800 premium.

safety
All classes have seven airbags that include a central front inflatable, two ISOFIX points and three top connection points, front and rear parking sensors, detection and reading of traffic signs, and autonomous emergency braking designed to detect cars, pedestrians and cyclists, and work at intersections. He also beeps if the car in front of us moves and you linger.
There is also hefty feedback assistance to maintain the planned lane as a proposed line and curb identification, assistance in avoiding cross-traffic collision at a blind spot using ESP, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and a lane tracking assist function. There it integrates with a lane keeping aid to enable assistive driving on the highway.
The GT-Line adds a few more highlights, including blind-spot camera views on the devices when you specify, and AEB that works when parked backwards. The GT-Line diesel in particular also adds a smart remote parking aid that turns the key remote into a remote.
Unfortunately the Sportage does not yet have an ANCAP crash rating – however the mechanically similar Tucson is a five star vehicle so it would be a surprise if the Kia did not get the same result.
You can find more details and highlights on all the safety features on the official Kia Sportage page.

Engines
Buyers of the S and SX have a pretty simple choice of engine. Those who mostly hang out in the “stock market” and do not care about more stately performance can opt for 2.0 liters of natural fuel With front-wheel drive and six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The outputs are nothing flash honestly, b 115 kilowatts Of power and 192 nm Of torque, the latter provided at 4,500 rpm.
However you can upgrade to more effortless and pushed in the chest 2.0 liter turbo-diesel With eight-speed automatic transmission and electronically operated AWD on demand with three area-specific delivery modes that provide grip to the rear tires when there is a front loss. This engine produces 137 kilowatts and 416 nm, From 2000 rpm only. It also lowers fuel consumption from 8.1 liters per 100 km to 6.3 liters / 100 km On a combined cycle loop.
The compromise for this extra grunt, smoother road grip and longer ride range, is the dismal engine noise at idle, and the rather heavy price jump of $ 7000. If you do regular travel, drag things (up 1900 kg brake But with a drop of 100 kg), or just want more punch, then obviously it is better.

2.0 CRDi
This diesel remains the choice of luxo SX + and GT-Line, but this modest petrol option has been replaced by something that looks more promising: 1.6 liter turbo-petrol With 132 kilowatts and 265 nm, From 1500 rpm. It’s about 40 percent more torque or traction, available much earlier in the track, meaning you do not have to work on it that hard.
It also replaces the six-speed automatic with a torque converter with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) and replaces front-wheel drive for AWD on demand like diesel, but without snow / mud / sand terrain conditions. In terms of overall outputs and capabilities, this unit significantly reduces the gap.
It is worth noting that a 169-kilowatt gasoline-electric hybrid model is expected to arrive in 2022, although the company has not yet locked it. It will be welcomed as a diesel replacement with similar efficiency but with better refinement, and will be in line with the best-selling RAV4 Hybrid range.
If you are looking for details on the various engines offered, you can find a comparison side by side in the official brochure, or visit the Kia Sportage specifications page.

dynamics
This new model uses a different platform from the old model, which brings excellent torsional rigidity. This is actually a derivative of the platform that underlies the larger Sorrento, plus the tied Hyundai Tucson. Kia Australia’s local suspension team noted the direction of the shock absorbers to suit local roads, adding fit to the ride while maintaining body control.
After spending time driving different vehicles with the new N3 platform, we found the overall ride balance and handling excellent, with models with smaller wheels and slightly better tire sides slightly better to round smaller entrances. The other big improvement over some other Kia-Hyundai vehicles is the suppression of tire roaring across roads with rough chips.
All scores come with a ‘DMS’ function that includes four driving modes called Eco, Normal, Sport and Smart. The first three change things like throttle calibration and transmission points to suit your driving preference, but we recommend simply leaving it in Smart and letting the car’s integrated computers make the choice for you.

Thoughts
Diesel is not suitable for everyone, but it is the choice of propulsion systems because of its torque supply and longer service intervals. The price increase is a factor, but I would tend to ignore it, personally.
If you are going on road trips, like the idea of exploring some modest trails, or want excellent towing and carrying luggage, then this is especially recommended.
In terms of walking specs, while the GT-Line is by far the most coveted, they all come well-equipped with safety features.
This SX grade seems like an obvious interest on the base S, making it the value choice, as you get the information and entertainment that looks better and the wheels design is cooler at a modest price.
