Almost a year after the new-generation C4 launched, Citroen Australia has launched another step in its brand revival plan with the 2022 Citroen C5 X. Supposedly combining the best parts of an SUV, a wagon and a luxury sedan, the C5 X is Citroen’s first large car since the last-generation C5 (not to be confused with the C5 Aircross) stopped production in 2017. It’s available in just one specification for Australia – the $57,670 plus on-road costs Shine – and with only a 133kW/250Nm 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine.
Citroën Australia Managing Director, Kate Gillis, says new C5 X, with its fresh and innovative styling, powerful and economic drivetrain, and strong standard equipment list, boasts impressive buyer appeal that will further expand the brand’s Australian growth opportunities.
“C5 X truly underscores the brand’s design DNA and will appeal to those discerning Australian drivers keen to travel in absolute comfort and style. It also gives us the opportunity to engage with both new and existing Citroën audiences,” Ms Gillis added.
The 2022 Citroen C5 X is a high-riding, front-wheel drive wagon that competes with the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Octavia and Superb, Subaru Outback and WRX Sportswagon, the Mazda6 wagon and even the Citroen’s Peugeot 508 SW cousin.
Externally, the 2022 Citroen C5 X measures 4,805mm long, 1,490mm tall, 1,865mm wide with a 2,785mm long wheelbase. It offers a healthy 545-litres of bootspace, which expands to 1,640L with the rear seats folded. A space-saver spare lives underneath the boot floor.
Under the bonnet of the 2022 Citroen C5 X is the same 133kW/250Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and is solely available in front-wheel drive form, with combined fuel consumption rated at 6.0L/100km. A 165kW plug-in hybrid variant is due for Australian sales in the second half of 2023.
Standard equipment on the 2022 Citroen C5 X includes 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting with auto wipers, a sunroof, keyless entry and start with a hands-free electric tailgate, leather upholstery with heated front seats and a heated leather steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, an eight-way electric driver’s seat with memory, a six-way electric front passenger seat, a 12.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a wireless charger, an eight-speaker sound system, a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display and a heads-up display.
It also debuts Citroen’s new Connected Services system, which is free for three years from the vehicle’s warranty start date. It includes information on car park spaces, fuel prices and traffic and uses a SIM card to connect to the internet.
Safety kit includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with low-light pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, intelligent speed adaption, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, a speed limiter, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, auto high beam, lane keep assist, lane trace assist, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.
The only no-cost colour on the C5 X is ‘Magnetic Blue’, while ‘Steel Grey’, ‘Platinum Grey’, ‘Nera Black’ and ‘Amazonite Grey’ are $690 extra and ‘Pearl White’ is $1,050 extra. Grey and black leather is the sole interior colour option.
