Cost effective motoring has become a huge talking point for local motorists as the costs of buying a car are pushing many buyers into entry-level vehicles. Unfortunately, safety is often not a high priority for buyers who prefer fancy tech and cool interiors to passive safety that may one day save them in an accident. We take a look at the entry-level Amaze from Honda to see what they have on offer
Is it Amaze-ing?
The Honda Amaze is the Japanese brand’s entry-level city car offering aimed at individuals and families that need cost-effective motoring. The Amaze has a lot to offer in terms of driving comfort, economy, and tech but is it safe?
Power output sits at a healthy 66kW and 110N and conservative driving will return 5.6l /100km. The Amaze is quite that, being able to reach a top speed of 160km/h while still having space for 5 adults and their baggage in the 420l boot. Surprisingly the Amaze also scored a 4-Star Global NCAP rating for adult occupancy safety in a 64km/h frontal crash it did however score very poorly for child safety clearing only 1 star.
Safety equipment:
ABS (Anti Lock Braking)
Pre Tensioning seatbelts
2 x Airbgas (driver and passenger)
ISOfix
Verdict
What the evidence suggests is that the Amaze is suited safety-wise to a two-up configuration up front as numerous crash contact points existed for the child occupants in the rear, driving the score down significantly. We suggest doing your own research before making a decision as the test result may vary by region. You can view the actual crash test conducted here
