Sixth-gen CR-V surfaces following leak from Chinese trademark office, gets HR-V inspired styling and plenty of new tech
At the back of the CR-V the Honda SUV keeps its L-shaped tail lamps but moves the number plate higher up the rear tailgate. Under the bonnet, it’s been confirmed Chinese buyers will get a punchy turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that will pump out around 140kW and come with either front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. All versions will get a CVT transmission. From launch a hybrid CR-V e:HEV will also be available that will combine a 2.0-litre and two electric motors.According to the spec released from the Chinese government, the new Honda CR-V will measure in at 4703mm long, 1866mm wide and stand up to 1690mm tall – those figures are 80mm longer, 11mm wider and exactly the same height as the current Honda SUV. Making more room inside is a wheelbase that’s 41mm longer than before that suggests that Honda might be planning a seven-seat version in the future. There’s still no pics of the 2022 CR-V’s cabin but it’s thought it will get a full digital instrument cluster and a larger version of the HR-V’s 9.0-inch infotainment system. Other changes are set to include the introduction of the car-maker’s latest Honda Sensing suite of active driver aids that will include a level 2+ semi-autonomous cruise control.
Despite the high-profile leak, the Honda CR-V’s official debut is still tipped to be months away ahead of its launch in Australia before the end of this year.
