These incidents, which have been linked by some owners to the region’s recent extreme heat, involve the vehicle’s air suspension system, leading to air leaks and the chassis collapsing on one side or entirely, as reported by Jinzhao News. Customer service response: “thermal protection” In response to inquiries regarding the air suspension issues during hot weather, Xpeng customer service explained that the system may trigger a thermal protection mode. According to the company, if the air suspension height is adjusted frequently or automatically while driving in high temperatures, the compressor may overheat, resulting in a “suspension compressor overheated and unable to adjust” warning. The company advised that if this warning appears, drivers should park in a safe location and wait for the compressor to cool down, stating that the system “generally recovers after a period of time.” However, Xpeng has yet to provide a specific explanation or solution regarding the reports of air leaks and chassis collapse. Recurring issues and customer frustration The concerns extend beyond heat-related warnings. Data from the automotive quality complaint platform 12365auto highlights recurring technical failures. One owner of an Xpeng X9 EREV Max reported that their vehicle suffered air suspension system failures at 1,552 km, with the same issue recurring at 2,500 km. Subsequent inspections at a service centre identified a short circuit in the motor inverter and a blown fuse. The owner, who has had the vehicle for only five months, expressed frustration over repeated visits for repairs and alleged that the service centre refused to sign off on the fault inspection report. As early as July 2025, social media users reported similar instances of air suspension collapse, with some owners noting that dozens of members within large Xpeng owner WeChat groups had experienced identical malfunctions. Last year, Xpeng’s P7+ experienced a steering gear failure, which ultimately led to Xpeng recalling 48,000 units of that model. As of the time of writing, Xpeng has not issued an official statement, investigation report, or comprehensive solution regarding the collective complaints. The Xpeng X9, marketed as an “ultra-intelligent large seven-seater,” was launched in January 2024 with an initial price range of 359,800 to 419,800 yuan (52,900 to 61,700 USD). The lineup has since expanded to include both extended-range and pure electric versions. In the first half of 2026, the X9 recorded cumulative sales of 13,324 units.
