The iCaur V23 has to be one of the more interesting SUVs to come from China, and there has been a lot of them lately. Much of the appeal, if not all, has to be from the V23’s design, which is sort of like a modern rendition of the classic Toyota Land Cruiser. By the way, Toyota itself doesn’t have an electric LC or any 4×4 at the price point iCaur is looking at – RM145k-RM155k estimated. Previewed late last month, the V23 is now on display at ACE 2025 by paultan.org, co-sponsored by Carro and Kärcher, which opens to the public at Setia City Convention Centre today, so you can check out the SUV up close and try it out for size. You can also compare it with the iCaur 03, the Chery-owned brand’s first product in Malaysia. The silver V23 you see here is a right-hand-drive car in specs that are close to what customers will get post-launch, which will happen before the year ends. Two variants are available – 2WD and iWD, like in Thailand where the car is sold as the Chery V23. In a nutshell, these are the powertrain specs: iCaur V23 2WD Electric motor: 136 PS (134 hp or 100 kW) and 180 Nm; RWD 0-100 km/h: 11 seconds Top speed: 140 km/h Battery: 59.93 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Range (NEDC): 360 km DC charging: 85 kW AC charging: 6.6 kW iCaur V23 iWD Front electric motor: 75 PS (74 hp or 55 kW) and 112 Nm Rear electric motor: 136 PS (134 hp or 100 kW) and 180 Nm Total system output: 211 PS (208 hp or 155 kW) and 292 Nm; AWD 0-100 km/h: 7.5 seconds Top speed: 140 km/h Battery: 81.76 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) Range (NEDC): 430 km DC charging: 104 kW AC charging: 6.6 kW Compared to the 03, the V23 has a 20 mm longer wheelbase at 2,735 mm. However, as there are virtually no overhangs here, the V23 has a smaller footprint than the 03 – 4,220 mm long and 1,915 mm wide versus 4,406 mm long and 1,910 mm wide. The old-school looks also bring a much taller body – 1,845 mm versus the 03’s 1,715 mm. The latter makes it appear like a bigger car than the 03. If you’re curious, this EV offers a minimum ground clearance of 200 mm, wading depth of 600 mm, approach angle of 42 degrees and a departure angle of 40 degrees. Inside, the upright dashboard houses a large 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen stacked above rectangular air vents and a panel with large dials and switches – good. By the way, we’re not getting a circular meter ahead of the driver, as per the China market – instead the speedo and other driving info will be displayed on the right-side of the central screen. Storage wise, you’ll find nets at the bottom of the chunky door cards, a two-tier configurable centre console and boot space that’s expandable from 234 to 1,366 litres, including 80 litres of underfloor space. In the kit department, expect a vehicle-to-load system (V2L, 3.3 kW output, 19-inch (2WD) or 21-inch (iWD) wheels and a 540-degree ‘transparent’ camera. Level 2 ADAS, too. The estimated price for the V23 2WD is RM145,000, and RM155,000 for the iWD variant. Curiously, these figures are identical to what was announced for the 03 prior to its price reveal in September (RM119,800 to RM129,800), so it’s safe to expect a much lower final RRP when the V23 is launched by the end of the year. Again, the iCaur V23 is on display at ACE 2025 at Setia City Convention Centre today (yes, only today) so grab this opportunity to check out this interestingly-styled EV before it’s launched.
