The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport benefits from off-road upgrades. The highlight is the tweaked suspension with a 1.38-inch (35 mm) lift. The rugged SUV also gains amber hood lights and wider fenders. The fourth-generation Honda Passport was introduced last year, but the automaker already has a few upgrades in store for the TrailSport variants. The off-road-focused models benefit from a re-engineered suspension and increased ground clearance along with subtle styling tweaks. According to Honda, TrailSport models account for over 80% of Passport sales, which explains the focus of the latest MY updates. The automaker promised to add a little “more testosterone” to the SUV and now calls the updated version “the most off-road-capable SUV Honda has ever built”, offering a “class-leading” combination of off-road prowess and road handling. The Smoke Blue Pearl shade replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl in the available palette, while the Blackout Package gains more black garnish on the skid plates. The interior is carried over, but two features previously limited to the flagship Elite trim are now standard across the TrailSport lineup. While the naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine with 285 hp (213 kW / 289 PS) is carried over, Honda redesigned 70% of major suspension components, including springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars, and knuckles, as well as the front driveshafts and the front subframe. As a result, the ground clearance of the TrailSport has been increased by 1.38 inches (35 mm) to a more substantial 9.65 inches (245 mm), distinguishing it from the standard Passport. The automaker brags that the Passport TrailSport’s ground clearance beats those of rugged rival SUVs, including the Toyota 4Runner TRD, the Subaru Outback Wilderness, and the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch. Naturally, the lift kit had a positive effect on the off-road angles. More specifically, the approach and departure angles are 25° (+2°), and the breakover angle is 23° (+3°). Furthermore, the redesigned suspension promises better articulation and ride quality off the beaten track, in combination with “improved steering feel and response” for a more enjoyable experience behind the wheel.
