The sporty SU7 and YU7 have been critically acclaimed abroad, while maintaining a healthy presence on China's sales charts. Now it's expanding its reach with the N70 and N90, big, family-friendly extended-range EVs launched Monday under a new SkyNomad sub-brand.Xiaomi first spilled the beans on the basics of the SUVs in July. But this week it threw a curveball by revealing a previously unannounced top-trimmer variant called the N90 Max Studio. I'll admit that at first I brushed the N90 Max Studio off as just another big Chinese luxo-barge. But this one seems special, even in China's already over-the-top car market. Pretty comfortably too, it seems.Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max StudioXiaomi says the N90 Max Studio is meant to be a kind of live-work space for professionals, or the ultimate car-camping vehicle. The features and finishes are designed to be suitable for a mini, wheeled living space, and not just a car. The idea is to make the vehicle feel like a house, and a true private space to spend time. Now, we've heard that concept from automakers dozens of times, but Xiaomi has added some ingenious touches that make this SUV livable. And the second-row captain's chairs are now a three-person-wide bench with upholstery that is more similar to a mattress, rather than a typical car seat. It folds down in one touch, Xiaomi says, and turns into a bed that sleeps two. The bed is about six feet long by four feet wide, roughly the same size as a full-size mattress. The bench also features a 60/40 split design, so you can sleep on just one section and leave the rest as a seat. On top of that, it can be closed off from the rest of the cabin to function as a loft. It looks wide and long enough to accommodate two more people. One of the interior windows was replaced with a few storage cubbies, for a total of 20 liters of storage. The door of one includes a vanity mirror with a ring light.Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max StudioThere's now an add-on desk that slots right into the car's center cup holders, power outlets, and a refrigerated compartment. In theory, you can drive the N90 Max Studio to a campground and have a nice time without much additional equipment. Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max StudioThe two-row N70 starts at $31,200 (209,900 RMB), while the top-of-the-line N90 Studio is $44,600 (299,900 RMB). Like most other Chinese vehicles, these prices wouldn't likely resemble what they'd cost in markets outside of China. However, even in China, the SkyNomad EREV crossovers are competitively priced, undercutting big rivals from brands like Li Auto by about $3,500. Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max StudioMost SkyNomad vehicles are powered by the same 76 kWh battery, sending power to a 281 horsepower front motor and a 134 horsepower rear motor. They use a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to charge the batteries and extend the driving range as needed. Xiaomi claims up to 1059 miles of combined driving range (310 miles of pure electric driving) for the N90 Max Studio its most efficient N70, but this is on China's CLTC cycle. But it's still not very common to see modern manufacturers craft their own ideas of what these features would look like from the factory. Volkswagen's ID.
