The streamlined coupé is extreme, but the technology proves it has its feet firmly on the ground. Volkswagen AG/dpaA Volkswagen concept has hit a new record for electric vehicle efficiency. The so-called Mission Efficiency covered 1,278 km from Wolfsburg to Vienna and, during the journey, reached an efficiency rating of 6.48 kWh/100 km.Kilometres per kWh (kWh/100 km) measures how many kilowatt-hours of electricity an electric vehicle uses to travel 100 kilometres.Underneath, the Mission Efficiency uses the same MEB+ platform as found on the new Volkswagen ID.Polo, Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval.AdvertisementAdvertisementThanks to its sleek aerodynamic design, the Mission Efficiency managed a range of 653 km, representing a large increase over the ID.Polo's claimed 543-km range. During its drive, the Mission Efficiency was only charged a single time, too."Mission Efficiency is the ideal way to demonstrate what distinguishes Volkswagen in the electric age: technology for the masses – not just for the few," said Thomas Schäfer, chief executive of the Volkswagen brand."Rather than using specialist technology, the vehicle set its three world records using affordable production technology from the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, based on the MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive."Volkswagen put the Mission Efficiency through a variety of driving conditions, too, and reached a top speed of 138 km/h during the journey. Despite its concept-like design, the Mission Efficiency still offers 481 litres of luggage space and can seat four – though the rear seats are small and only suited to smaller children.
