Volkswagen ID4 Gets Up to $12,500 OffMotorTrend - MotorTrendVolkswagen is clearing out inventory of the all-electric ID4 with some pretty big discounts. With the ID.Tiguan set to replace it next year, the German automaker needs to make room for the new generation, and it's offering deals that are generous enough to make the outgoing EV worth a second look.Volkswagen is giving customers $12,500 toward the purchase of a 2025 ID.4. That's a massive discount, especially considering the Limited model starts at $41,420. Volkswagen says availability is very limited, but if you're lucky enough to find a 2025 ID.4 in stock, this deal is about as good as it gets. The ID.4 was one of VW's first mainstream electric vehicles in the U.S., and though it hasn't kept up with newer rivals in every area, it remains a comfortable and practical electric SUV. With more than $12,000 off, some of its shortcomings become easier to accept. For the 2026 ID.4, which has greater availability than the 2025 model, Volkswagen is offering customers $6,000 toward their purchase. While that discount isn't nearly as large, it's still pretty generous and could make the newer model an appealing option for buyers who want a factory-fresh vehicle without paying full price.Compared with some of the other EV deals available, the ID.4's discounts rank near the top. The only vehicle with a larger price break is the 2026 Audi E-Tron GT that Audi offers with $20,000 off. Other EVs with similar discounts include the 2026 Kia EV6 and 2026 Kia EV9; both are available with $5,000 off.We don't consider the ID.4 to be near the top of its class—it placed last in a seven-vehicle comparison test we conducted—but these discounts are tough to ignore. Some of the things we don't like include the lack of one-pedal driving and the fact the model doesn't have access to Tesla's Supercharger network.Still, the ID.4 has plenty going for it. Its cabin is spacious, the ride is comfortable, and its driving manners are easy to live with. It also offers a simple and relaxed driving experience that many buyers will appreciate. For some shoppers, the ID.4 could strike the right balance of range, practicality, and price, especially now with thousands of dollars in savings. The 2026 model may be the better choice for people who want the newest version, but the 2025 is the one to hunt for if you're focused on getting the biggest discount. But as mentioned, it seems the main challenge will be finding one before the remaining inventory disappears. The upcoming ID.Tiguan is expected to offer better range, faster charging, and hopefully access to Tesla's Supercharger network. Volkswagen has remained tight-lipped about the details, but we hope to learn more later this month when the ID.Tiguan makes its debut in Europe.Until then, the outgoing ID.4 suddenly looks a lot more attractive. It may not be the best EV in its class, but it's hard to dismiss when VW is offering up to $12,500 off the price.
