Shoppers who prefer the newer 2026 version can still get a discount, though it is more modest at $6,000.The offer is available through November 2 at participating dealers for private customers, whether they are leasing or paying cash. Since some stores may not show the promotion in their advertised pricing, the outlet said buyers may need to ask specifically whether the Customer Bonus has been included.Volkswagen says the biggest savings apply to the 2025 model year, which has "very limited inventory available." According to InsideEVs, that outgoing version offers the same performance and features as the latest ID.4.More backgroundVolkswagen is scaling back ID.4 production at its Chattanooga, Tennessee, factory as it shifts space toward additional gas-powered SUVs, the outlet noted.For many households, upfront cost remains one of the biggest barriers to going electric. A discount that brings some new ID.4 trims below $40,000 could make the vehicle more competitive with other popular electric SUVs, including Tesla's Model Y.According to InsideEVs, some 2025 Pro all-wheel-drive trims with a 77-kilowatt-hour battery were listed for less than that amount. Those versions are rated for 263 miles of range, which is enough for many commutes, family errands, and even road trips with charging stops.Lower sticker prices can also help more drivers access the savings that often come with EV ownership, including reduced fuel costs and less routine maintenance than gas-powered vehicles. Still, not every commenter on InsideEVs was gung-ho about the deal."I picked up an Ioniq 5 earlier this month," one wrote. "And even with $12.5k off my Ioniq 5 was still a better value."What can be done?Anyone shopping for one should verify with dealers that the Customer Bonus is actually being applied. Because the discount may not be prominently listed, it can pay to check with more than one dealership.It may also be worth comparing 2025 and 2026 inventory side by side. If a 2025 model is still available nearby, it may be the better bargain, as it's identical except for being a year older, as InsideEVs noted.Buyers should also look beyond the monthly payment and examine the final sale price, financing terms, lease details, and any added dealer fees.
