Jump LinksAnd It Has Three Rows Of Seating!Cadillacs Recipe For The Longest Range EV SUVHow The Escalade IQ Stacks UOnce again, Cadillac comes out on top, but this time it's not completely for the luxury and opulence with which the Cadillac nameplate is synonymous. The Cadillac Escalade has always been a standout for comfort, power and prestige in the full-size sport utility segment. But as the auto industry gets serious about zero-emission vehicles, some customers have concerns about range capabilities. With 465 miles of range, not only does Cadillac have a solution for the range-anxious customer, but they have also redefined the Escalade to be the EV SUV with the longest range available in 2026.MSRP listed below excludes destination charges. The Longest Range EV SUV: The 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ And It Has Three Rows Of Seating Cadillac With all the stunning looks and cutting-edge technology that you would expect from this highly advanced and massively powerful SUV, the Cadillac Escalade IQ has the reach to match. Boasting a class-leading 465 miles of range (or at least up to), this Cadillac SUV continues to hold the title for the longest-range EV SUV. In a climate where EV range anxiety is setting in for many potential customers, this growing concern is having an effect on American EV sales, so this is the one feather any EV wants in its electrified cap. First announced by GM in May 2023 as a battery electric version (BEV) of the already popular Cadillac Escalade, the IQ went into production in 2024 to be available in the 2025 model year.Cadillac The Escalade IQ uses GM's Ultium electric drivetrain technology. This system consists of a 24-module Ultium battery that supplies power to one or two Ultium drive motors, depending on the application. These 24 modules, or 'pouch cells', can be configured and stacked horizontally or vertically to best suit the design of the vehicle. However, they are typically situated under the floor between the front and rear axles. This arrangement also helps to lower the vehicle's center of gravity. The Ultium system is modular in that it shares many key components with some other models, like the Chevrolet Silverado EV and the GMC Hummer EV.The Escalade IQ is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive SUV that incorporates two drive modes. Standard drive mode offers "only" 680 horsepower. The Velocity Max mode boosts power output to a whopping 750 horsepower, which moves this 9,100-pound SUV to 60 miles per hour in just 4.7 seconds. Size Matters Cadillac's Recipe For The Longest Range EV SUV CadillacLike many battery-electric vehicles, the hefty Escalade IQ gets the majority of its weight from the large battery that lives under the floorboards. Relying on sheer capacity, the Escalade IQ has one of the largest battery packs available in any production passenger BEV, trading efficiency for massive range and practicality. This titanic-sized battery offers 205 kWh of usable power, which is significantly more available juice than its competitors. The BEV closest in range, being the Lucid Gravity achieving a 450-mile range, utilizes a battery with only 123 kWh, for example. Cadillac's secret to roadtrip-esque range for the heavy Escalade IQ really is no secret at all - it's simply just a massive battery. To get into the weeds a bit, GM's 24-module Ultium battery uses advanced NMCA (nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum) cell chemistry. This formula provides high energy density and longevity, while reducing cobalt content by 70% when compared to older battery designs. This is a great aspect of new GM battery technology as it not only cuts costs, but mitigates some serious ethical concerns associated with cobalt mining itself.Jared Rosenholtz/CarBuzz/Valnet The Ultium battery not only provides crazy range, but fast and effective charging as well. The 800-volt system architecture will charge at up to 350 kWh DC, which equates to 100–117 miles of added range in just ten minutes using public DC fast charging. The Ultium system also takes advantage of advanced thermal management. This method of battery heating and cooling keeps its many cells at optimal temperatures. This system supports the long range of the Escalade by minimizing range loss during extreme hot or cold weather. This same system is used in the Hummer EV and Silverado EV as well. The success of GM's full-size trucks and SUVs boils down to the big-capacity battery trumping lightweight efficiency. Is this the EV version of "no replacement for displacement?" The Comparison Game How The Escalade IQ Stacks Up Jared Rosenholtz/CarBuzz/Valnet With many good choices for a BEV now available, the competition is tough. The Escalade has them all beat in the range department, but it should be noted that the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring is nipping at the heels of the large Cadillac. It has a smaller battery, but its electric motors make more horsepower, and it can achieve around 450 miles of range. It's safe to say the Lucid Gravity has a range that is similar to the Escalade IQ. As efficiency is the key ethos of the Lucid Gravity, its long range can be attributed to a few different factors.Lucid The Gravity relies on its slippery aerodynamics that produce a drag coefficient of only 0.24, which, considering that the Gravity can carry up to seven people, is mightily impressive. The Lucid also employs a set of highly efficient permanent magnet motors, which are built in-house and are very compact and lightweight. Superior energy management also helps the Lucid achieve its roughly 450 miles of range. Lucid also has its own version of liquid cooling for the lithium-ion batteries used. These batteries were co-developed by Panasonic with custom chemistry used exclusively in Lucid vehicles for maximum life and energy density.Other EV SUVs are putting up impressive numbers as well. Equipped with the 'Max Pack' battery setup, the Rivian R1S can achieve 410 miles of range from its dual motor system, while delivering a stout 665 horsepower. It is as capable off-road as it is on, with 15 inches of ground clearance and adjustable air suspension. The R1S also features off-road modes and torque vectoring with the quad motor version. The R1S may deliver Jeep Wrangler off-road capability, but you probably shouldn't expect the 410-mile range when stretching its off-road legs or hitting the trails.Rivian Looking ahead, the biggest competitor for any battery-electric vehicle is going to be the extended-range EV, which is an EV with a gas motor in place to help charge the battery. Manufacturers like Ford will be releasing the next-generation F-150 Lighting EREV. This extended-range full-size pickup truck is capable of 700 miles of range. Ram also has an extended-range pickup truck that will be available as of late 2026. The new Ram 1500 REV will make 647 horsepower and achieve 690 miles of range. These are only two examples of the popular and highly capable extended-range EV being heavily reported on. Considering the over 400 miles of range some of these heavy EVs are capable of, it's evident that the BEV has made some big strides in range capability.“With 750 horsepower in the V version, featuring Velocity Mode, it delivers the instant, effortless acceleration you expect from a high-end EV, making merging and passing a breeze despite its weight and size.”- Elektric Review
