McLaren Teases Extreme 750S Variant Named '788HS'Instagram / McLarenMcLaren has taken its long-lived 720S platform to some pretty incredible places. Nearly nine years after the basic version of the car won our Performance Car of the Year award, it continues on in updated form today as the 750S after a brief detour for the limited-run 765LT. Development isn't done yet, though. According to a pair of teasers posted on social media this week, McLaren has at least one more supercar in this family up its sleeve. In the first teaser posted Tuesday, McLaren shows off the 720S, 750S, and 765LT before ending on the line "legacy demands more." That alone seems like a clear teaser for a successor to the 765LT to go further than the relatively high-volume 750S, but the announcement does not indicate much about what the car will actually be.Fortunately, McLaren shared another teaser on Wednesday. This time, we can see a massive rear wing, tons of exposed carbon fiber bodywork, and a quad-exit exhaust reminiscent of the 765LT. Most importantly, though, we have a name: 788HS. Going off past trends, that number should indicate a power output of 788 PS (around 777 hp) and the S at the end should mean a conventional body, rather than the long-tail shape seen on the 765. The H in the middle is the most interesting addition. Does it indicate a hybrid, like the P1 and Artura before it? Is it a reference to the 720S platform ascending to hypercar status? Or something else entirely?AdvertisementAdvertisementWhatever the 788HS is hiding, we should learn more very soon. McLaren says that the car will be revealed tomorrow morning English time, suggesting that a full unveiling is less than a day away. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
