INDIANAPOLIS - Arrow McLaren has revealed the car numbers for its 2027 NTT IndyCar Series lineup while also tying the announcement to a broader McLaren rebrand that will be rolled out across its racing and automotive operations beginning next year. Pato O’Ward will remain in the No. 5 Chevrolet, while six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon will move into the No. 6 entry. Felix Rosenqvist will drive the No. 7 car, and 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay will continue in the No. 31 entry for the team’s additional Indianapolis 500 program. The number assignments carry extra significance for Dixon, who is set to race under a new car number for the first time in more than two decades. Dixon spent nearly his entire IndyCar career driving the No. 9, except for the 2004 season when he carried the No. 1 following his championship-winning campaign. Rosenqvist, meanwhile, returns to familiar territory. The reigning Indianapolis 500 winner drove the No. 7 machine during his first two seasons with Arrow McLaren in 2021 and 2022 before returning to the number for the 2027 campaign. Alongside the driver-number announcement, Arrow McLaren unveiled a redesigned number font that aligns with McLaren’s newly evolved global brand identity, which was introduced this week across both McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive. According to McLaren, the refreshed identity is designed to connect the company’s heritage with its future ambitions while creating a more unified expression across its racing and road-car businesses. The rebrand draws inspiration from founder Bruce McLaren and incorporates historic elements including the iconic Speedmark, the team’s signature papaya color and the Speedy Kiwi emblem that honors McLaren’s New Zealand roots. McLaren officials said the new identity reflects the company’s continued expansion across Formula 1, IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship while supporting broader growth initiatives within its automotive division. “McLaren has evolved enormously over the years, but looking back through our shared history across Racing and Automotive, it’s poignant how much of Bruce’s original vision and spirit still runs through the business today,” McLaren Racing Chief Marketing Officer Lou McEwen said. “This evolved identity perfectly bridges that proud heritage with our future ambition.” Arrow McLaren Team Principal Tony Kanaan said the team’s driver lineup and new visual presentation provide an early glimpse at what fans can expect when the organization begins its next chapter in 2027. “We’re excited to begin our next chapter in 2027,” Kanaan said. “This team has continued to raise the bar year after year, and with Pato, Scott, Felix and Ryan in the cockpit, we believe we have the tools to achieve our goals. While fans will have to wait a little longer to see the 2027 liveries, today’s announcement offers a fun glimpse of what lies ahead.” The 2027 IndyCar season is scheduled to begin March 7 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, as Arrow McLaren enters the year with a veteran lineup and a refreshed identity tied to McLaren’s broader global vision.
