The little Suzuki 4×4 is getting a GMC-like look to become a pint-sized version of a legendary go-fast SUV.Suzuki builds the Jimny as a serious off-roader with a ladder-frame chassis and live front and rear axles, but it's not exactly winning races.Under the hood, it packs a 1.5-liter four-pot rated for just a touch over 100 horsepower. Moreover, it runs short gearing for trail use.Square headlights and a new grille give the Jimny a surprisingly GMC-like front end. - Credit: CLLINKEven so, that hasn't stopped Japanese tuner C.L.LINK from setting its sights on reimagining the tiny 4×4 as a pint-sized version of a legendary '90s American performance icon.A tiny Suzuki TyphoonI'm talking about the Typhoon, a turbocharged AWD SUV that GMC built from 1992 to 1993.At the time, the model made a name for itself as a factory-built special that could run 0-60 in around 5.3 seconds. This meant the GMC could rattle sports cars of the era; its truck counterpart, the Syclone, famously bested a Ferrari 348ts.The Nomad's four-door layout jars with the Typhoon's configuration, but it's still a respectable transformation. - Credit: CLLINKC.L.LINK doesn't name the Typhoon outright in its kit announcement, but the pictured Jimny Nomad transformation follows the visual formula closely, and the callbacks it's making in the pre-production images are obvious.Along with the squared-off headlights and blacked-out bodywork and trim, the little Suzuki rocks a low stance that gives it a much more aggressive vibe. The "UMC" on the front and tailgate even mirrors the red of the GMC badge on the real thing.A lowering kit drops the ride height by an inch. - Credit: CLLINKC.L.Link's Jimny lowdownTo accomplish the look, C.L.LINK's kit will tweak the suspension via a combination of Eibach coils and Bilstein shocks. The setup is said to drop the Jimny's ride height by 1 inch.Beyond the lowered stance, the build promises a new grille, a body-color panel to replace the rear spare-tire carrier and some smoked taillight lenses. Riding on a set of the outfit's 16-inch UNIONRIM wheels, it'll also feature a new C.L.LINK rear muffler. The rear tire carrier gets a delete for an uninterrupted look. - Credit: CLLINKObviously, it's not set to be a perfect recreation as pictured because of the four-door layout. Moreover, C.L.LINK's kit specs don't imply that it'll give the Suzuki any extra giddyup in keeping with the source material.Still, the transformation makes for some sweet visuals, and it at least promises some added performance spirit throughout the cabin. In addition to rear seat covers, it also touts a set of front Recaro buckets. The front Recaro bucket seats at least suggest performance intent. - Credit: CLLINKMore to comeAccording to C.L.LINK's announcement, the Jimny kit is set to debut at Tokyo Auto Salon 2027, which will run January 15 through January 17.The outfit hasn't yet released pricing, though it plans to open order books upon reveal next year.About the Author: Gray is an associate editor at Gear Patrol, covering cars, motorcycles and anything else with wheels.
