The vehicle uses dual-chamber air suspension, six-piston front brake callipers and Huawei’s next-generation DriveOne electric drive, with HIMA claiming a 1 ms motor torque response. Luxeed executive Zhao Changjiang said the RX completed an evasive lane-change manoeuvre at more than 250 km/h on a banked oval proving ground. HIMA also claims its 6-in-1 centralised domain-control architecture has a decision-chain latency of less than 1 ms. Werner Gruber confirmed as former Ferrari designer behind RX The identity of the designer Zhao Changjiang, previously described as a former Ferrari designer, was disclosed by Sina, when Zhao published photos with Werner Gruber in connection with the Luxeed RX project. Gruber worked at Pininfarina before joining Ferrari and later became Vice President of Design at Saleen. A 2026 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing from Saleen identifies Gruber as its Vice President of Design and says he joined Ferrari in 2010 as a senior exterior designer. His Ferrari portfolio included work on the LaFerrari, FXX-K and Portofino. The disclosure resolved the identity question that emerged after Zhao initially referred to a “former Ferrari chief designer.” Ferrari’s official corporate information identifies Flavio Manzoni as Chief Design Officer, while Gruber’s confirmed Ferrari position was a senior exterior-design role. Regulatory data lists body heights of 1,585 mm and 1,600 mm for different configurations. The RX uses Huawei’s Turing Platform and Chery’s “343” compact architecture, with large-area integrated aluminium die-cast sections and lightweight structural materials. Its front suspension uses an all-aluminium double-wishbone layout with a virtual kingpin and four-ball-joint arrangement. The rear uses a five-link independent suspension. Dual-chamber air springs are paired with dual-valve continuously variable damping control. The front brakes use six-piston fixed callipers, and the vehicle uses staggered tyres with different front and rear widths. Production is based at Chery’s intelligent factory in Wuhu, Anhui Province. Pre-production verification is complete, and tooling for large-scale integrated die-casting modules has begun. 1 ms torque response and a physical boost button The RX uses Huawei’s next-generation DriveOne electric drive. HIMA says its motor torque response time is 1 ms. A physical boost button is integrated into the D-shaped steering wheel. HIMA says the function can temporarily increase torque by 10 percent by coordinating the powertrain, chassis, and cockpit systems. The 10 percent figure refers to the temporary boost function and does not represent a stated increase in permanent peak motor output. 250 km/h oval test was conducted Zhao Changjiang said the RX completed a lane-change manoeuvre at more than 250 km/h on a banked oval proving ground, with lateral acceleration approaching 1G. He said active roll control was used during the steering transition and estimated that the staggered tyres experienced about two metric tons of lateral shear force at 250 km/h, reports IThome. According to Zhao, the powertrain, chassis, and body-control systems coordinated during the manoeuvre. He also described the RX’s standardised moose-test performance as first-tier. RX enters China’s low-slung electric SUV segment The RX is dimensionally close to the Xiaomi YU7 and Voyah Passion S. All three have a 3,000 mm wheelbase, while the RX’s 1,585 mm configuration is lower than the YU7’s 1,600 mm and the Passion S’s 1,656 mm. The YU7 measures 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm high, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Xiaomi offers rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, with output reaching 508 kW on the highest-output configuration. The Passion S measures 5,050 mm long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,656 mm high, also with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Its all-wheel-drive version produces up to 475 kW. The RX is 21 mm longer than the YU7 and 30 mm shorter than the Passion S. In its 1,585 mm configuration, it is 15 mm lower than the YU7 and 71 mm lower than the Passion S. Luxeed RX arrives as R7 deliveries decline The RX joins the Luxeed lineup as domestic R7 deliveries have fallen sharply from their November 2025 peak, according to China EV DataTracker. The R7 delivered 10,006 units in November 2025, 9,665 in December, and 3,821 in January 2026. Monthly deliveries then remained below 2,000 units from February through July, reaching 772 units in July. The R7’s July volume was down 20.3 percent month on month and 80.5 percent year on year, while its share of Luxeed’s monthly domestic volume was 7.8 percent. In November 2025, the model accounted for 86.4 percent of the brand’s monthly volume. These figures put the RX launch in the context of Luxeed’s changing domestic sales mix. They do not establish a connection between the R7’s delivery decline and the development or launch of the RX. The Xiaomi YU7 has recorded substantially higher domestic volumes during the same period, including 10,223 units in July, 14,324 in June and 20,196 in February. Its July volume was down 28.6 percent month on month but up 69.2 percent year on year. Price, Battery and Final Configuration Details Remain Undisclosed HIMA and Chery have not disclosed the RX’s retail price. Current regulatory and industry reporting identifies multiple battery configurations, including an 81.1 kWh pack and two packs around 100 kWh. The highest reported configuration claims up to 852 km of CLTC range. The powertrain lineup includes a 277 kW single-motor rear-wheel-drive version and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version using a 160 kW front motor and 277 kW rear motor, for a combined 437 kW. Regulatory information also identifies a four-LiDAR sensor configuration. Current public information has not disclosed the specific driver-assistance software version assigned to each RX configuration. Pre-orders for the Luxeed RX will open on August 20, 2026.
