It was all the way back in 2010 that the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set a new production-car top speed world record of 267.85 mph. To remind us, again, Bugatti is producing yet another special edition, but there's a catch here. Bugatti isn't building a new version of the 20-year-old Veyron. It's recycling a used one. A very used one.Bugatti Say hello to the Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition. It has all the carbon fiber and Bugatti orange of the original record-setting car. But what you're looking at is "a unique factory pre-series model" that Bugatti’s official heritage and restoration program, La Maison Pur Sang, restored.Check out The Drop at our companion site HotCars for a chance to win the Vyper Elite Trio Package, a premium set of garage chairs! Bugatti Is Now In The Upcycling Game Bugatti Bugatti doesn't specify if this is going to be a one-of-one. That may depend on how many pre-production cars it has knocking around. Essentially, a pre-production model, or pre-series in marketing speak, is a pilot car built to find problems or refine production before a new model goes on sale. According to Bugatti, several pre-series components were updated to production specification to make this special edition. This particular unit had a working life during the Veyron's release, traveling around the globe being photographed, taking part in media events, and used for customer demonstrations. Indeed, when we go to first-drive events during car launches, the cars we drive are pre-production models. It's a rarity, even in the ultra-luxury car space, that they are resurrected to be sold, though. Honestly, would you want a car previously driven by us hot-foot journalists?ModelBugatti Veyron Super SportEngine8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16Power1,200 hpTorque1106 lb-ft0-62 mph2.5 secondsTop speed257.8 mph"Bugatti hyper sports cars are engineered to be driven, experienced and enjoyed. Through La Maison Pur Sang, we ensure that even vehicles with a rich and active history can be restored to the same standard they possessed when they first left Molsheim."– Luigi Gall, Bugatti Heritage & Certification ExpertFor this resurrection as a special edition, the Bugatti Veyron's epic W16 engine and the bonkers piece of engineering that is the Bugatti Veyron's transmission remain original to preserve the unit's historical significance and authenticity. Most of the upgrades are electrical and in the cooling system, so the car should be as reliable as the production models that followed. The interior is restored and refined, and the exterior refinished, including the carbon fiber bodywork being refinished and the orange paint renewed. Impossible To Put A Price On Bugatti The Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition is going to be sold, complete with a certification book documenting the vehicle’s history and refurbishment. Typically, pre-production series cars end up destroyed so they can't end up being sold and becoming a liability for the automaker. But, Bugatti is a limited production company and brought this up to production standard, so hopefully it can be driven on the road.05 2603 BUGATTI-Pre-Series-Veyron-Super-Sport-World-Record-Edition
