Bugatti Boss: 'Imagine [the] V-16 With a Manual'BugattiIf you're paying close attention, you might have noticed that manual transmissions are slowly creeping their way back into the supercar and hypercar world. And from the sound of it, Bugatti is certainly interested in jumping on the bandwagon. While speaking with Road & Track during Monterey Car Week, CEO Mate Rimac suggested a manual transmission is a real possibility for the future. When asked if there's space for a Bugatti with a manual, Rimac emphatically said, "Yes, definitely. Definitely. I agree one hundred percent. Imagine [a] V-16 with a manual. Real manual."How about that, folks?BugattiWhile the V-16-powered Tourbillon was originally announced with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and no stick-shift option, this statement from Rimac sure makes it sound like Bugatti has its eyes on bringing a manual transmission into the fold. But the exact nature of any potential vehicle—whether it would be a one-off or part of the Tourbillon population—is what Rimac didn't elaborate on.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Solitaire program could be an easier fit for such a project, as Bugatti's one-of-one atelier is creating some incredible builds based on production vehicles. The first was Chiron-based, while another just shown at Monterey Car Week was based on the Bolide. As Bugatti begins introducing Tourbillon-based Solitaire projects to the world, doing a one-off manual would make for one hell of an entrance. (It would also be a touch disappointing if that was as far as it went, though; we'd love to see more than one three-pedal V-16 Bugatti roaming this earth.)One of the most telling parts of Rimac's statement is that this gearbox would be a "real manual." In other words, Bugatti seemingly has no intention to follow Ferrari down the path of the simulated manual transmission, the likes of which is being offered in the 12Cilindri Manuale. Any Bugatti manual will seemingly be the proper, real deal. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
