The American EV automaker is finally going mainstream, introducing a new mass-market option to follow up its excellent but pricey breakout models.Rivian is still a startup in relative terms, so its lineup isn't as diverse as some other brands. It has big ambitions to change that, however, with plans to bring a slew of adventure-ready electric vehicles to market over the next few years.Read on to see what's new for Rivian in 2027 and what's to come.1) 2027 Rivian R1SPhoto credit: MotorTrend - MotorTrendGiven Rivian's focus on the new R2 this year, The R1S three-row SUV is unlikely to get any major hardware changes for 2027. Notable is the discontinuation of the smaller Standard battery pack for the Dual Motor powertrain; the Large pack is now the starting point, which raises the starting price but also extends driving range.AdvertisementAdvertisementOther recent updates include the introduction of Borealis purple and Half Moon Grey paints, as well as the limited-run return of the Forest Edge green-themed interior color scheme.Customized and special-edition examples could arrive, as well, along with vehicles showcasing the RAD department's capabilities. This smaller, less expensive SUV brings the brand's outdoorsy EV formula closer to the mainstream.Sized as a compact-to-midsize crossover, the R2 seats five, offers generous passenger and cargo space, and brings a familiar Rivian look with a more approachable starting price in the mid-$40,000 range. Depending on trim, the R2 is available with rear- or dual-motor power, between 275 and 345 miles of range, and up to 656 hp in Performance specification.AdvertisementAdvertisementDespite its lower price, it still emphasizes Rivian strengths: quick acceleration, confident road manners, legit trail capability, clever storage, and adventure-ready accessories. New tech includes Rivian's latest infotainment, haptic steering wheel controls, Autonomy+ hands-free driver assistance, improved battery and electrical architecture, vehicle-to-grid capability, and over-the-air update potential. It's an SUV that's smaller and cheaper than the R1S and R2—but is arguably even more rad. The R3 will mix retro-infused styling and premium materials with smart packaging and big power. The outcome looks like a compelling, high-riding all-electric hot hatchback. We can't wait for the R3 to arrive, hopefully for 2028.AdvertisementAdvertisementRead Our Experts' Full Rivian R3 Review5) Rivian R4, R5, and R6Photo credit: MotorTrend - MotorTrendRivian has a huge amount of work to do to get the vehicles it's already announced into series production, but it's already thinking ahead to diversify its lineup—expect that R4, R5, and R6 models are in the works. What form these vehicles will take is known only by Rivian's top brass. They could include a pickup truck version of the R2, smaller or larger SUVs, or even an all-terrain minivan. It's too soon to say with any certainty what the R4, R5, R6, and other future Rivian models might become, but if they're anywhere near as good as the company's current products, they'll be very good indeed.6) 2027 Rivian LineupPhoto credit: Rivian2027 Rivian R1S: Unchanged2027 Rivian R1T: Unchanged2027 Rivian R2: All-new model
