Rivian Is Going Full 'Ghostbusters' for HalloweenRivianFall is rapidly descending upon much of the Northern Hemisphere, and Rivian is preparing to celebrate spooky season with a new Ghostbusters collaboration.Rivian has historically dressed its vehicles up for Halloween, and the California-based EV startup is calling in reinforcements this year. Rivian, in collaboration with Sony Pictures, is bringing the Ghostbusters universe to all its vehicles from October 9 through November 2, 2026. Thanks to an over-the-air update, Rivians will now feature a limited-time "Halloween Mode" with the sounds, lights, and Easter eggs from the Ghostbusters universe.RivianHalloween Mode will transform your driver display by adding custom lights and sounds, custom lock sounds, a scavenger hunt feature, and a "'Mallow Mash" mode where the center screen pops Mini-Pufts marshmallow men against the clock while parked. Custom exterior LED sequences include "Ecto-1," "Proton Pack," "Slimer," "Ghost Trap," or "Peter Venkman," paired with accompanying soundscapes that can be motion-activated. Rivian is even including a Scavenger Hunt inside the infotainment that sends you hunting for hidden characters tucked inside familiar screens. Back seat passengers aren't left out of the fun, either; "Trick or Treat Mode" takes over front and rear infotainment screens with the Ghostbusters theme song and matching lights. To properly commemorate the Ghostbusters, Bill Murray teamed up with Rivian for a commercial spot. Working with director Gil Kenan, co-writer of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and director/co-writer of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Rivian's commercial features Murray arriving at the scene of a spooky house overrun by a ghost and neutralizing the threat with a Rivian R1-mounted weapon. Murray even slicks his hair back with the gunky remnants of the ghost.Intrepid fans will notice the Rivian R1S featured in the commercial is not a typical model. To round out the Ghostbusters homage, Rivian built a special-edition R1S, named—of course—the Ecto-R1. This Rivian features 22-inch aero wheels with a chrome-like finish, a signature red graphic, and the "No-Ghost" logo painted on the hood and front doors. A custom roof rack with sirens, spotlights, a radar dish, and side tanks mirror the original film car. (The custom roof rack frame and accessory housings were built in-house by Rivian's Special Projects team.)To access these features, your Rivian and mobile app must be updated to the latest software (for the R2, that's version 2026.36.40; for the R1, it's version 2026.36.0). A prompt will then appear on your driver display asking if you'd like to "hunt some ghosts," launching the Ghostbusters app. Rivian retail spaces in Laguna Beach, Austin, Venice, Miami, San Francisco, and New York City will also throw celebrations to commemorate the feature. If You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
