Its design isn't as bold and masculine as the many rugged pickup trucks on the road, nor as elegant as the SUVs commonly seen on the daily commute. However, its function-over-form, straightforward design leaves almost no job off the table, but a 12-passenger van like the Ford Transit may not be for everyone. Parking isn't for the unadventurous, fuel economy isn't the main goal, and fitting one comfortably in many garages can be a hard sell. But for some, they're just what the doctor ordered - a safe, reliable means of transportation for the family, or a small group of people, that still offers an ample amount of cargo space and utility. Even though the 12-passenger van market is relatively small compared to other segments, some manufacturers still offer some great options for 2026.All MSRPs listed below are for base models and do not include destination or any other charges. Prices are subject to change based on location or at the manufacturer's discretion. The Ultimate Workhorse: The 12-passenger Van Tow, Haul, And Move Everybody ChevroletFor many reasons, the 12-passenger van has continued to prove its worth amidst the stiff competition of grocery getting three-quarter-ton crew cab trucks like the mighty Ford F-250King Ranch Super Duty, or tremendously proportioned SUVs like the Jeep Grand Wangoneer L. With impressive towing capacities (actual tow ratings vary depending on model and drivetrain), and cathedral-like cargo holds (with seats removed), the fullest of full size vans have one defining and obvious trick within their seemingly unending sheet metal exterior. This is ability to haul a small army, or more realistically, a large family and tow the camper. Who Still Offers A 12-Seater Van For 2026? 2026 Chevrolet Express & GMC Savanna 2500/3500: Base MSRP $49,345 / $47,950 ChevroletThe Chevrolet Express/GMC Savanna twins are the last two remaining vans that retain traditional American full-size van proportions and general looks. The twin full-size vans from GM ride on the GMT600 platform. The GMT600 is an old platform that was originally introduced for the 1996 model year. Now in its 30th year of production, the GMT600 platform has been a solid backbone for these full-size vans, outlasting the iconic E-Series from Ford. Some minor updates have been made over the years, like some interior changes, and, of course, updated drivetrain options, but the chassis, suspension and sheet metal remain largely unchanged.Chevrolet The lack of any major refinement could be viewed as both a strength and a weakness. The "why fix what's not broken" mentality towards the GMT600-based vans does offer proven reliability, low developmental costs, and earns strong fleet demand. On the flip side, these vans come with outdated ride characteristics, poor fuel economy and fall behind in some safety and tech features when compared to others in its segment. The 12-passenger Express and Savanna are only available in either a 2500 or 3500 chassis, with either a 4.8 liter V8 or the larger 6.6 liter V8. The Chevy Express and GMC Savanna's beauty lie in their simplicity and unwavering reputation for steadfast reliability and brute V8 power. 2026 Ford Transit: Base MSRP $58,680 FordAlthough the Ford Transit has been around since 1965, it wasn't sold in the United States until 2014 as a 2015 model. This was the fourth generation of Ford's European-styled full-size van. A far cry from the dated and boxy but mega popular Ford E-Series van, the Transit is a whole different van. Like the others in this segment, it is highly adaptable for many different uses, but a Ford Transit 12-passenger van setup is still the most traditional. Unlike the dated GM twins, the Transit comes with three different roof heights, two body lengths and four different weight ratings that can all be configured on one wheelbase, allowing for even more space and customization. For those looking for a heavy-duty van, the Transit is also available with a dual rear wheel setup.Ford Also available is Ford's Intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The Transit is one of two vans in this segment to offer AWD. Gone with the E-Series are the old standby engines that full-size Ford vans have relied on for years, like the modular V8's, the V10 and any diesel option for customers in the US. The Transit relies on Ford's small but capable EcoBoost V6 or a normally aspirated six cylinder. Ford makes several options and configurations available for the Transit. This may be one of the reasons that, as of 2025, the Ford Transit leads in full-size van sales. 2026 Ram ProMaster Window Van: Base MSRP $51,730 RamThe Ram ProMaster has also been around for a while - although not available in the US, and not under the Ram nameplate. Known as the Fiat Ducato oversees, Stellantis rebadged the Ducato as the Ram ProMaster and made it available in the US for the 2014 model year. Available with only one engine, the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 with the nine-speed TorqueFlight automatic transmission, the ProMaster doesn't have as many drivetrain options as its competitors. Interestingly, the Ram ProMaster is the only front-wheel drive van of the bunch. Its FWD layout does come with some benefits, one of which is the lowest load floor in the segment, at a user-friendly 21 inches of height. The Cargo version of the ProMaster gets the majority of the body and wheelbase configuration options.Ram The "Window Van" is available in only one wheelbase length, at 159 inches and seemingly only one roof height, according to the manufacturer's website. However, the ProMaster can be had in both 2500 and 3500 variants with upgraded suspensions as an option. Judging by the available options between the cargo and passenger versions of the ProMaster, it's evident that Stellantis favors keeping the versatile ProMaster focused on fleet sales and commercial use. 2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van: Base MSRP $56,930* Mercedes-BenzThe Sprinter is the literal Mercedes of the bunch. Mercedes gives you a choice of two different 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines. Both engines come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. This is the other 12-passenger van out of the group that offers an all-wheel-drive train as an option. However, to be eligible for AWD, you must opt for the higher output engine in order to get it. Two wheelbases are available at 144 and 170 inches. A high roof is also available for the 144-inch wheelbase van, but standard on the 170-inch wheelbase version. When fully occupied, the Sprinter still offers 117 cubic feet of cargo space as well. A nice 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard equipment on many models, as well as active brake assist.Mercedes-Benz Although this is a Mercedes, don't expect all the plush appointments that are typically associated with this luxury brand. Mercedes keeps its eye on the ball with the Sprinter, and focuses on maintaining its utility and adaptability for commercial use without wrapping everything in supple leather and faux wood grain. The seats are upholstered in easy-to-clean cloth or a leatherette, which is preferred by many buyers for its better looks and easy maintenance. Notably, the Sprinter includes load adaptive stability and cross-wind stability control systems for safe, confident passage during inclement weather or hauling a heavy load. Big Vans, Big Capability Which Van Is Right For You? MercedesThe 12-passenger van segment has steadily shrunk over the years. Largely overshadowed by the booming popularity of SUV's and the evolution of full-size pickup trucks into family-friendly crew cabs. Nissan's 12-passenger van, the NV3500, was available until 2021, after which Nissan discontinued the model entirely. But the manufacturers that are still offering full-size 12-passenger vehicles do make them an enticing option when shopping for a large do-it-all vehicle. With a wide range of configurations and options available, you can easily tailor these vans to perfectly suit your specific needs. While these full-size vans promise unending capability and flexibility, they also have a strong advantage when you look at the numbers. When compared against similarly priced SUVs and trucks, the 12-passenger van consistently offers more space, seating and utility for the money. That's just one more feather in the cap of its versatile roofline options.
