According to industry leaks, Xiaomi Auto’s first range-extender SUV will be launched under the new independent sub-brand Skynomad, with a planned release in the second half of 2026. The Skynomad brand will focus on range-extender vehicles and recreational vehicles, targeting family, long-distance and outdoor travel scenarios. The brand’s first model has the internal codename Kunlun N3, and three additional range-extender SUVs, namely Kunlun 10, Kunlun 20 and Kunlun 30, are also in the pipeline. Xiaomi has conducted extensive road tests on the vehicle. Previous spy shots show the new car retains the brand’s signature boxy silhouette, featuring a closed front fascia and a split headlight layout. The upper part houses a full-width daytime running light strip, while the main light sources are embedded below, paired with a full-width front bumper for a clean and orderly design. In terms of powertrain, the vehicle is equipped with a range-extender hybrid system and is expected to feature a large-capacity battery of over 70 kWh, delivering a pure electric range of 400 to 500 kilometers. Equipping range-extender SUVs with large-capacity batteries has become an industry trend, with models such as the IM LS9 and Leapmotor D19 already adopting this configuration. In the latest leaked spy shots, the new Skynomad SUV is fitted with a raised rooftop tent. It remains unclear whether this is a factory special edition or an optional accessory. Currently, all models under Xiaomi’s main brand are pure electric vehicles. With the launch of Skynomad, Xiaomi officially enters the range-extender family SUV segment, with its models targeting the mainstream premium family market priced at 350,000 to 400,000 yuan ($50,750 to $58,000). On January 3, 2026, Lei Jun, Chairman of Xiaomi Group, announced that Xiaomi Auto has set a full-year sales target of 550,000 units. According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Xiaomi Auto’s retail sales reached 36,702 units in April, showing a strong overall market performance. The arrival of the Skynomad series will also serve as a new growth driver for Xiaomi to hit its annual sales target. China’s new energy vehicle market is currently witnessing fierce competition in the mid-to-large size range-extender SUV segment. After its launch, Skynomad will directly compete with Li Auto and AITO in this track. For Xiaomi, this sub-brand is an important strategic move to upscale its automotive business. Launching the first range-extender model under an independent brand can create a clear distinction from Xiaomi’s premium pure electric product line and protect the main brand’s identity. However, the drawbacks are equally obvious: without the Xiaomi logo, the new car may lose the inherent fan traffic, market recognition and brand premium that come with the Xiaomi name. Xiaomi officials have not yet responded to inquiries regarding the Skynomad sub-brand.
