[Image Credit: @David Moss / X]Trusting a robotaxi like a Tesla Cybercab can be a tough ask for people who are understandably skeptical about the nascent technology. And as one man found out, the self-driving vehicle still has a few kinks to work out, as he found himself going around in circles in a parking lot as the cab was unable to find the right path. This frustratingly added more time to his ride and required him to talk with support to fix the cab's route.Passenger needed to speak with support to correct the Tesla's route14 Minutes Stuck In A Cybercab:Interesting edge case I just experienced in this Tesla RobotaxiIt failed to reroute itself & did loops for 7min trying to leaving pickup parking lot. But viewers don't have to take his word for it, since the passenger posted the full 14-minute video of the entire experience on the platform. The trouble with the taxi's route was that there was construction being done that blocked one of the exits of the parking lot. Footage shows the cab making right turn after right turn as it attempts to avoid various construction vehicles and signs. According to Tesla North, this happened in Austin, where Tesla only started offering paid Cybercab rides in early September. In what the user calls an "interesting edge case," the robotaxi performed loops for about seven minutes. At a certain point, one of the construction crew workers noticed what was happening and moved their vehicle so that the cab would have more room to navigate.About halfway through the video, the taxi finally noticed that something was wrong and indicated on the interface that it was finding a safe place to pull over. It then connected to support, which remotely tried to correct the taxi's path. The passenger didn't seem to mind too much, calling the continual loops the car made like some kind of ride at an amusement park.A construction worker asked if the passenger could move the car[Image Credit: @DavidMoss / X]However, it took a while before support was able to fix the issue. During that time, one of the construction workers came over to the passenger side and spoke with Moss on whether he could move the cab out of the construction area, but he said that he couldn't do much about it since there's no steering wheel. Fortunately, the robotaxi didn't park in a way that blocked the workers from doing their job.Manwhile, Moss was stuck inside the vehicle and unsure of what was happening. He tried to get the attention of support a few times, but he didn't get a response back. About a minute later, the agent did provide some feedback, but didn't give an update on what was happening on his end. Finally after waiting a few minutes, the taxi moved again. Instead of manually adjusting the cab's route, support restarted the Tesla Cybercab as a means of changing its path by force upon starting up again. That apparently did the trick, as the cab found an alternate exit out of the parking lot and then made a right turn on a major road.Moss responded to several questions posed by other users in the thread about his experience. He indicated that this wasn't the first time that these loops have happened in the Tesla Cybercab, saying that the "more miles you're in the car, the more it happens." Thankfully, unlike other cab services, passengers are not charged more money when the Cybercab goes into these infinite loops since the ride has a "fixed upfront price."One user said that it would be interesting if the passenger could talk to Grok in the robotaxi so that it could help out with these edge cases. However, Moss said that this would actually be "a horrible decision." He wrote, "You think they would let me tell a car how to drive & them still take liability?"The post Video Shows Man Stuck in Tesla Cybercab That Goes in Circles Around Parking Lot appeared first on Mandatory.
