The Yue 7 marks Trumpchi’s first serious entry into rugged SUVs. The exterior styling leans heavily on familiar off-road design cues. A plug-in hybrid system powers every version of the new model. The first generation of models from GAC’s Trumpchi brand was bland, uninspired, and outdated. The Chinese company has put in the work since. The brand now builds vehicles that hold their own, even if they don’t always look it, and the Yue 7 is its newest offering, briefly previewed at the Beijing Auto Show and revealed in full only now. The current lineup covers sedans, SUVs, and minivans, but the Yue 7 plays a different game. It’s Trumpchi’s first proper rugged off-roader, akin to a Toyota Land Cruiser or Land Rover Defender. Vehicles like these have to look the part, and GAC has managed exactly that, partly because, well, a fair bit of the look has been borrowed wholesale. The SUV’s wheel arches are fittingly chunky, as are the door handles and side steps. These images also show the Yue 7 with several different wheel designs, including ones with a bead-lock-inspired design and black spokes. Positioned at the rear of the off-roader is a spare wheel carrier, while the taillights are relatively simple, but suit the vehicle nicely, as does the black bumper. What About The Juicy Details? The filings put the Trumpchi Yue 7 between 4,999 mm (196.8 inches) and 5,045 mm (198.6 inches) long depending on spec, up to 2,030 mm (79.9 inches) wide, and 1,933 mm (76.1 inches) tall. The wheelbase measures 2,900 mm (114.1 inches), and curb weight lands at 2,330 kg (5,136 lbs). That puts it on roughly the same exterior dimensions as a Defender 110, give or take a shorter wheelbase. Every version runs the same plug-in hybrid setup consisting of a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 167 hp (125 kW), an electric motor, and either a 28.3 kWh or 45.9 kWh battery pack. Combined power outputs aren’t known, but the Yue 7 will apparently have an all-electric driving range of up to 117 miles (188 km).
