Toyota 7-Seater SUV Models Ranked By BuzzScore For 2026Toyota has been selling 7-seater SUVs in the US market for more than 25 years now, starting with the Sequoia and the Highlander back in 2001. They have always been the go-to for families looking for practicality and reliability. In 2026, their portfolio has expanded to suit the growing needs of larger American households, and the brand now offers four sports utility vehicles with seating for seven. We have driven all four of the Toyota SUV models with 7 seats currently on sale in the USA, and we had good things to say about all of them - the Toyota Highlander even features on our Best 3-Row SUVs of 2026 list (and numerous others). While these Japanese SUVs are quite different in many ways, they all offer hybrid engine options. Currently, it is the go-to choice for people wanting good economy and range while also traveling with their entire family. But which one is the best for you? We rank all the 7-seater Toyota SUV models for 2026 here.CarBuzz has collected information on the entire 2026 7-seat Toyota SUV lineup from the manufacturer. Models have been ranked according to their BuzzScore, which is based on our research and test drive reviews. We list these in order from lowest to highest rated. All prices quoted exclude options and destination fees, and are correct at the time of writing. 2026 Toyota 4Runner BuzzScore: 7.9/10 The Toyota 4Runner is the first choice if off-roading is one of your considerations while choosing a 7-seater SUV. It is built on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, which is the same as the rugged Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks. For 2025, the exterior of the 4Runner was drastically changed to give it a more boxy and rugged design, bringing it more in line with how the revered Land Cruiser looks, and those changes carries over into 2026:"The new 4Runner has all the right boxes ticked: The engine upgrade is on point and brings the 4Runner up to expectations, while the hybrid delivers more than most will need. The ride and handling is now up to par for the 2020s, and the off-road ability is a definite upgrade across the trim levels."- Ian Wright, Senior Road Tester, CarBuzzAn optional third row is available on the SR5 and Limited trims to make this into a seven-seater, but this can't be paired with the hybrid powertrain. Naturally, opting for the third row does eat into the cargo space, which goes from 48.3 cubic feet to 12.1 cubic feet behind the back row. It's also worth noting that the 4Runner has the least headroom in the 3rd row among the Toyota SUVs mentioned in this list because of its midsize nature, off-road focused chassis, and special suspension. 2026 Toyota Sequoia BuzzScore: 8/10 The Toyota Sequoia was the company's first 7-seater SUV for the US market, back in 2001. It is still a very viable option in 2026, competing in the full-size SUV segment with a hybrid-only powertrain that manages to keep a great balance between efficiency and power. The Sequoia is also a comfortable family hauler, with leather upholstery as standard and power-folding third-row seats. It's great in terms of cargo space, with a maximum volume of 22.3 cubic feet behind the third row. There is 33.7 inches of legroom in the thrid-row at a maximum, which makes it most roomy back there of the SUVs on this list. It also offers some adventure-ready trims for 2026, making it a solid option for people looking for a Japanese 7-seater SUV. 2026 Toyota Highlander BuzzScore: 8.4/10 The 2026 Toyota Highlander is the perfect recipe for a sturdy 7-seater SUV if you do little to no off-roading and drive mainly in the urban jungle. While the exterior and interior have not been changed for this year (because a big change comes in 2027 as the nameplate goes all electric), Toyota is closely following the mantra of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The hybrid option also helps with fuel economy and range that often plague big, bulky SUVs.The Highlander gets an average of 35 mpg in the city and on the highway. Every trim level also gets all-wheel drive as standard now, which is great for on-road stability and all-weather grip."It's still pleasant to drive on the highway with some wind noise that typically plagues Toyota vehicles. On a back road, the Highlander isn't completely incompetent, managing its bulk fairly well. If you liked how the Highlander drove in the past, you'll enjoy the new one."- Jared Rosenholtz, Editor-At-Large, CarBuzz 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander BuzzScore: 8.6/10 The Grand Highlander is now entering its third year on sale, and again, like the Highlander, not much has changed for this year. That does not stop the Grand Highlander from being the best 7-seater SUV that Toyota offers in the United States, according to our BuzzScore. As the name suggests, the Grand Highlander is also the roomiest car in terms of max headroom and legroom in all three rows. Although the 4Runner is a bit cheaper than this in the base trim, the Grand Highlander has more room for third-row passengers while having more cargo space in the back, at 20.6 cubic feet. It is also the most fuel efficient of the bunch, with an average of 37 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.Buyers won't make a wrong choice looking at any of the models in Toyota's 2026 7-passenger SUV lineup. All four cars rank within one point of each other. The best choice for you will depend on your use case and priorities in day-to-day life. If off-roading is a big question in your mind, the 4Runner and Sequoia are the obvious choice. However, if you live in a city and almost never drive over an off-road trail, the Highlander and Grand Highlander are the best family transporters this Japanese brand offers in 2026.Sources: Toyota
