Ferrari Motorcycle V8A custom motorcycle builder recently finished up their Ferrari-powered motorcycle project, using a V8 from a 355 supercar. And someone just bought it for $500,000 only a few months after it was completed. One of the greatest-sounding engine designs of the last 100 years is the flat-plane-crank V8. High revving, guttural, and delivering the noise of the Old Gods, it's an architecture that's powered modern supercars and sports cars, and instant classics alike. And one of the best flat-plane V8 cars of all time is that of the Ferrari 355.The Ferrari 355 is one of those cars that, to this day, more than 30 years later, still drips of sex appeal. Its design is still poster-worthy, as the classic shape remains perfectly proportioned. And the V8 hiding behind the firewall, well, that's still one of the greats, which is why when Max Hazan sought to create something special, i.e., a very special motorcycle, he plucked the V8 out of an old Ferrari 355, and built a chassis around it.I mean, what else are you going to do?AdvertisementAdvertisementWe've covered Hazan's creation before on RideApart, showcasing the talented custom motorcycle builder's handiwork. But the motorcycle is now done, and not only that, it's so done, it's already off to its new owner who, according to recent reporting, bought it for a cool half-million, which simultaneously sounds like a lot and not enough give the blood, sweat, and fabrication Hazan put into the motorcycle.Build It And They Will ComeKawasaki Should Build a KLE R, And Here's How I'd Do ItCan-Am Teamed Up With MeatEater To Build The Perfect Hunting Side-by-SideCalled the HF355, the motorcycle has a custom frame—though it's more akin to how modern hypercars use engines as stress members—custom swing-arm, new front forks, custom electronics, and the Ferrari 3.5-liter V8 to boot. There's also custom bodywork, and the engine has been gone through so as to give the rider that much more visceral of a sensation, as you get independent throttle bodies with velocity stacks, and a light tuning. All in all, you're looking at 400-plus horsepower. It does weigh quite a bit, as due to the 355-sourced V8, the HF355 tips the scales at 585 pounds. That's hefty. I mean, you're looking at Harley-style weights. Even so, according to Hazan, the bike's got a theoretical top speed of about 187 MPH. We'll leave that up to its new owner to see that's true, though.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe resulting motorcycle took about 18 months to finish, with the impetus being a random eBay listing, and Hazan viewing the 3.5-liter V8 the following day and straddling it. A silly idea, sure, but can you really argue with what became of it.Upon starting it, Hazan told Robb Report, "It sounded like an Indy car in the pits. At full throttle, it’s absolutely wild—like warp speed in a sci-fi."The outlet was also the first to report that Hazan had sold the bike. The price, as mentioned above, was for an eye-watering $500,000. Hard to swallow when you're sitting behind the computer, but when you listen to Hazan speak about the motorcycle, listen to all the work he put into every single component, and how much of himself is in there, you get the sense it's more a work of art compared to just another custom motorcycle. And that's something I can get behind.
