This Man Drove His Ferrari 715 HP Purosangue Nearly 50,000 Miles With His Dog — Now He’s Chasing a RecordMotorBiscuitSaajan JogiaWed, September 9, 2026 at 3:52 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleWhat better way to go on a grand tour than driving a V12-powered Ferrari Purosangue from South America to Alaska with your dog? That is exactly what Em Jay has attempted three times so far with his dog, Rico. The 715-hp Ferrari has now covered around 80,000 kilometers (49,710 miles), a distance many owners would probably never consider putting on their prized SUV.Supercar owners often preserve their vehicles and let their cars appreciate in value, so few actually put serious mileage on their six-figure purchases. Running costs can also add up when you're talking about nearly 50,000 miles in a thirsty V12-powered Purosangue that can reach 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, but that hasn't prevented Em Jay from achieving his motoring goals. The brand calls the Purosangue the Ferrari Utility Vehicle (FUV), essentially its own take on an SUV, although its low-slung design looks far removed from a traditional SUV.That debate can wait for another day. More interesting is Em Jay's journey, which has been filled with ups and downs. He has attempted the South America-to-Alaska drive three times, including a world-record attempt to cover the entire Pan-American Highway faster than he had done before. The goal was to drive 22,900 kilometers (14,229 miles) in just 10 days with two other drivers. However, the attempt ended only two days into the trip when a road closure blocked their planned route, forcing Em Jay to abandon the drive.Image Credit: Em Jay / InstagramAdvertisementAdvertisementHis first attempt reportedly ended in an accident, prompting him to take the car to Ferrari in Santiago de Chile for repairs. Fortunately, the second attempt was successful as Em Jay and Rico made it to Alaska. Now, although the Purosangue has traveled a decent distance, he plans to finish the record run he had originally set out to complete. A post by CART Department on Instagram showcased some moments from the adventure Em Jay embarked upon multiple times, reminding people that it isn't the destination but the journey that matters, or shall we say, in this case, the grand tour that matters."Through dirt, snow and thousands of miles of pavement, the Purosangue has effectively become a long-distance expedition car, with Rico riding alongside him through it all," the post read.Another post by Em Jay shows the Purosangue at the Arctic Circle in Alaska. The caption suggests that he previously drove to this point in a Ferrari Roma four years ago.In another video from July, Em Jay compiled a montage of his journey that showcased his grand tour across 16 countries, mentioning the varying conditions and terrains through which he drove his Purosangue, places where few Ferrari owners would probably dare to drive.AdvertisementAdvertisement"From Montevideo to Deadhorse, this wasn't just a drive across the Americas. It was a journey through deserts, mountains, jungles, salt flats, snow, unforgettable people and countless challenges," he wrote in the caption.Image Credit: Em Jay / Instagram
