The World’s Only Matte Black Ferrari Enzo Was Built For Royalty, Now It’s For SaleGuessing HeadlightsAndre NalinTue, September 8, 2026 at 11:00 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleImage Credit: RM Sotheby's.Ferrari built the Enzo in several colors, but there is only one that left the factory looking quite like this. Its original owner wasn't exactly a typical Ferrari customer, either.Instead of the familiar Rosso Corsa, Giallo Modena, or gloss Nero, this Enzo wears Matte Nero Opaco. The finish arrived years before matte paint became commonplace on exotic cars. Its specification came courtesy of a member of the Royal Family of Brunei, whose collection became famous for unusual and bespoke machinery. The finished Enzo was delivered to the family's London residence in 2004.AdvertisementAdvertisementNow, RM Sotheby's is preparing to sell the one-off Ferrari through its Sealed platform. With only 5,763 km on the odometer and a unique factory specification, it has plenty going for it beyond royal provenance.Ferrari Only Made One Like ThisImage Credit: RM Sotheby's.According to RM Sotheby's, this is the only Enzo Ferrari originally finished by the factory in Matte Nero Opaco. Work began in June 2004 before the car was completed that October with a matching Nero leather cabin, red gauges, and large seats. The Enzo was initially kept in London and occasionally appeared around Hampstead, Mayfair, and Knightsbridge before eventually moving to the Asia-Pacific region. Even among 399-plus Enzos, a factory matte-black example would have been difficult to miss.Ferrari Specialists Spent €110,000 Refreshing ItImage Credit: RM Sotheby's.The car returned to Europe in 2022 and was sent to Carrozzeria Zanasi, a specialist closely associated with Ferrari's highest-end projects. RM Sotheby's says invoices for the work exceeded €110,000.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat extensive cosmetic refresh included replacing the notorious sticky interior switches, headlights, and rear bonnet glass. The body was also repainted in its original Matte Nero Opaco. The Enzo received Ferrari Classiche certification that same year and retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and bodywork. Its current owner subsequently shipped it to Canada, where it has remained since. It Has Barely Covered 3,600 MilesImage Credit: RM Sotheby's.At cataloging, the Enzo displayed only 5,763 km, equivalent to roughly 3,581 miles. Mechanical maintenance has continued despite that low mileage, including work performed by Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo and Ferrari of Vancouver. In August 2024, Ron Tonkin fitted a new clutch, both fuel pumps, and a left-side valve-cover gasket at 5,742 km. Only a handful of kilometers have been added since. This Could Be An Extremely Expensive EnzoRM Sotheby's hasn't publicly listed an estimate, instead making it available upon request. The Sealed sale opens September 23 and closes September 30, meaning this particular Enzo will soon have another owner.AdvertisementAdvertisementExactly how much someone will pay is unknown, and RM Sotheby's notes that the eventual transaction takes place through its Sealed platform. What is clear is that low-mileage Enzos with unusual factory specifications occupy the sharp end of an already expensive market.A Ferrari Enzo hardly needs additional help standing out. When it's the only factory matte-black example, was commissioned by Brunei royalty, and has covered fewer than 3,600 miles, however, even other Enzos start looking relatively ordinary. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
