The Ferrari Luce Is Already in North America as It Lands in CanadaGuessing HeadlightsHenry KelsallWed, September 9, 2026 at 12:30 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleImage Credit: Canadian Car Registry/InstagramThe Ferrari Luce is probably the most controversial car of 2026 so far. In fact, we'd place money on it remaining the most controversial car of the year; such was the backlash to its launch and how it was received.Despite that, it hasn't stopped the car from selling in the numbers that Ferrari had hoped for. Ferrari has already met the sales target for the EV for its first year on sale, and someone has even paid $40 million to own the first production model of the car, although that money has gone to charity. If you were hoping that the Luce wouldn't land on American soil for a while, well, you are out of luck. The Instagram account Canadian Car Registry has reported on how the Luce EV has landed in North America, with an example shown off for Ferrari Quebec clients in Canada.AdvertisementAdvertisementCurrently, this stands as the only Ferrari Luce EV that is on North American soil. However, that isn't likely to stay that way anytime soon. There will no doubt be plenty of American and Canadian buyers looking to get their hands on Maranello's first electric car.Where Was the Canadian Ferrari Luce Spotted? This Ferrari Luce was spotted at a Ferrari Quebec event, giving clients their first in-person look at the EV since it was unveiled. The car certainly looked the part, finished in its matte grey shade with gloss-black detailing. Black alloy wheels also helped keep the car's appearance quite understated. There were a few shots of the interior as well. This allowed buyers to see the dashboard and infotainment screens, another part of the car that has proved to be a hot topic. The dashboard screen is modern, yet the gauges have a retro feel to them, while the infotainment and navigation system is also on a screen that can tilt out towards the driver. It is clear to see where the Apple influence has come into the design. It is expected that the Luce will carry a price tag of roughly CAD 800,000 ($578,000), so it will certainly be for those with the deepest pockets. Although not as deep as Dr. Herbert "Herbie" Wertheim, the billionaire businessman, inventor, and philanthropist who paid $40 million for the first production example of the Luce. The EV sold at an auction during Monterey Car Week, with all of the proceeds from its sale going to various charities, including The Ferrari Foundation. Why Has the Luce Been So Controversial?Image Credit: Canadian Car Registry/InstagramThe idea of an electric Ferrari in itself hasn't been controversial for Maranello. We all knew that this was coming at some point. What has been a hot topic is the styling of the car, with many not happy with the design language Maranello chose. Ex-Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo said, "If I were to say what I really think, I'd be doing Ferrari a disservice. We risk destroying a legend, and I'm truly sorry about that. I hope they at least remove the prancing horse from the car.AdvertisementAdvertisementThere have been a few supportive voices for the Luce EV, however. James May praised the car for being very modern and contemporary. "I like it. I think it is interesting that Ferrari has done something very contemporary, very, very modern, which I think has been part of the definition of Ferrari styling over the years," said the former Top Gear and The Grand Tour host. Clearly, despite the backlash, not everyone is against the Luce. And its sales figures certainly speak for themselves. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
