The 2027 Genesis GV90 is designed to be a luxe lounge on wheels; notice the monoblock wheels and rotating front seatsThe Korean luxury car maker's newest model sets the stage for its next decade and moves it further into ultra-luxury territoryWhen Genesis revealed the Neolun SUV at the New York Auto Show a couple of years ago the details were so stunning and futuristic that the thought was, 'there's no way they'll actually build that.' Coach doors that open from the center? Side steps that cascade down for better access? Rotating front seats that, when parked, create a true inner sanctum? A retractable center screen that extends from the center of the dashboard? AdvertisementAdvertisementThe 2027 Genesis GV90 is all that and more. Much, much more. This story is 100% human-researched and written based on actual first-person knowledge, extensive experience and expertise on the subject of cars and trucks. Additionally, I was a guest of Genesis for this debut but all opinions are my own.GV90 is an SUV a Decade in the Making The 2027 Genesis GV90 evolves the brand's design language and adds a bit more glamor to the front light bar, which glitters like a string of diamonds – Credit: GenesisI was on hand as Genesis debuted the production version of the 2027 GV90 and its more posh version, the Neolun, a luxury SUV that takes the flagship position in the brand's lineup. The model made its global debut in San Francisco, crowning a decade of growth and the height of luxury for the Korean car maker. The journey to GV90 has included the sale of more than a million cars worldwide and a dealership network of more than 100 standalone dealerships across North America, as well as winning more than a few awards along the way. The company has also tinkered with innovative ideas such as fingerprint authentication, rotating drive selectors and facial recognition. And the company doubled down on its commitment to electrification, rolling out its first performance car as the all-electric GV60 Magma. AdvertisementAdvertisementThose two ideas—innovation and electrification—are at the heart of the GV90 and where much of its approach to luxury originates. The approach pairs nicely with the brand's ethos of hospitality and a penchant for minimalist design. At the pinnacle of all this is the Genesis GV90 Neolun, an executive-pampering inner sanctum of luxury.Read: 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe First Drive: The Perfect Way to Fly From Your Empty NestA Commitment To Electrification Enables Even More LuxuryThe rear of the 2027 Genesis GV90 – Credit: GenesisThis was sort of a surprise: The Genesis GV90 is EV-only, at least for now. But it may remain that way as the company extends its commitment to electrification and competing in the global marketplace. And while it makes sense as a vehicle that's sold around the world, it also makes sense for the experience that Genesis wants to deliver: Quiet, powerful elegance. The GV90 is powered by a 123.5 kWh battery system that generates 657 HP and 590 pound-feet of torque, a similar amount of power to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The system, which is the largest battery that parent company Hyundai builds, has a 310-mile range (based on Genesis' internal testing) and can recharge in 22 minutes at a 350 kW DC fast charger. To ensure the system works optimally, it has a cloud-based battery diagnostic system that can detect an issue before it becomes a big problem. The suspension can adjust to absorb impacts on the road, such as potholes or uneven pavement, and it can stiffen to control the car's leaning or swaying that can occur on curvy roads. To make driving this full-size SUV easier, Genesis also added rear-wheel steering, a feature that makes turning into parking spots or making U-turns much easier. This Is How I'd Configure My Ultra Luxe SUVThe Genesis GV90 Full-Size SUV Is Designed to Wow The Genesis GV90's ultra posh interior – Credit: GenesisThe typical mantra for luxury brands is to "surprise and delight," and while there's a lot of that in the 2027 GV 90, 'wow' is the term you'll be more likely to exclaim on seeing this SUV. Genesis has taken quite a few cues from other luxury carmakers, then advanced them into a truly remarkable luxury SUV. It starts with coach doors that open outward from the center; Genesis calls them Arch Gate doors. We've seen these on sedans in the past and they are a staple on the Rolls-Royce Cullinan; they create quite the invitation to come inside and get comfortable. But adding them wasn't easy; Genesis had to engineer the doors so they don't conflict with the front doors and reinforce the roof support to ensure the GV90 is as safe as possible. The company even added a roof airbag to ensure everyone is protected if the SUV is involved in a rollover accident. From there, the wow factor continues; in the Neolun executive edition, which is the top of the line, steps will cascade from the frame to assist passengers as they enter the GV90. Once inside, they'll be treated to massaging, reclining seats; heated floors, armrests and door panels; a multi-stage dimmable panoramic sunroof; and ambient lighting that is crafted to draw your eye to specific design details such as wood trim or cashmere upholstery. Not only is this where much of the car's functions happen, but it adds a cinematic quality to the cabin.Read: 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS First Look: Shouldn't Luxury Be Delightful Too?Advanced Technology Evolves the Genesis Experience The front cabin of the Genesis GV90 – Credit: GenesisThe new screen that anchors the dash isn't just larger; it's also smarter and more advanced. While the car is parked, it can extend an additional 3.5" from the dashboard for a full 24.6" display to allow video streaming. When used as a multimedia screen, it is where many of the car's and cabin's functions are found via the touch screen and using Hyundai's newest operating system, Pleos Connect. The Genesis GV90 is the first to employ the system, which is built on the Android Automotive Operating System and incorporates natural language AI for operating different functions such as opening the windows, changing the color of the ambient light, or changing the cabin temperature. Tech-Assisted Minimalism Defines the Genesis GV90 Experience The interior of the 2027 Genesis GV90 with the executive package featuring captains chairs and rotating front seats – Credit: GenesisWe're not used to thinking of 'minimalist' as an experience as much as an aesthetic; here, though, the idea extends to how the GV90 will function for driver and passengers. It starts with automatic doors that power the car on when they are accessed; pull the door handle and the car comes to life. AdvertisementAdvertisementGenesis eliminated the 'start' button, something we've seen in other EVs, and applaud; there's nothing more laborious than having to actually push a starter button, right? But the GV90 takes it further: As the doors are closed, a choreography of tech features lets the driver know the GV90 is ready to drive: the gear shifter will lower on the steering wheel column, a crystal controller sphere on the center console will rotate and the Bang & Olufsen tweeters on the dashboard will part. A simple press of the brake starts the GV90; just put it in gear and go. Ambient lighting is used to add to the minimalist experience; it's interactive, lighting up lamps on the doors when getting in or out and brightening a bit when voice assistance is in use. One of the most novel features are the rotating front seats. When the car is parked they can rotate to face the rear seats creating a true lounge feel. When Luxury Is Bringing the Family, Genesis GV90 Is There For YouThe minimalist interior of the Genesis GV90 shows mid-century design influencers and uses light as a design element – Credit: GenesisAt 208" long, the GV90 is just lightly shorter than the Cadillac Escalade (though a full 16″ shorter than the Escalade IQ) and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. And like the Caddy but not the Rolls, it comes with a 3rd row for those who want it: All GV90 models will have 3rd row seating, though the fancier Neolun, which can be equipped with a drink chiller, tray tables and massaging, reclining rear seats, will offer one as optional equipment.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe GV90 model will also have traditional swing-open doors rather than the center-opening coach doors and the front seats won't (yet) swivel to face the rear. I haven't yet had a chance to explore the GV90 to measure for kids' car seats and count the LATCHes, but I will soon and will share those details when I have them. I will say, though, that the idea of coach doors for 3rd row access sounds intriguing. Genesis confirmed the GV90 will offer a third row as an add-on, so we're excited to see it in action.Still, with standard semi-aniline leather upholstery, 16 exterior paint choices—plus three two-tone exterior options for the Neolun First Edition buyers—five interior design options and its distinct minimalist design language, the Genesis GV90 sets the stage for the brand's next decade. More details and pricing will be available closer to the on-sale date, but our guess is it'll start somewhere just north of $100,000. Further elevating Genesis as a contender among true luxury brands that surprise, delight and now, wow with innovations you didn't even know you wanted.
