Meet the Characters Behind C/D, Including Our Buyer's Guide Managing Editor.Car and DriverRich CepposFri, September 25, 2026 at 9:40 AM UTCAdd us on GoogleDriver of the Week: Drew DorianMichael Simari - Car and DriverThere's a common theme that runs through the Car and Driver editorial staff's backgrounds: a desire to work at C/D from an early age. No one may have set that as a goal earlier than Buyer's Guide managing editor Drew Dorian."At 11 years old, I decided I would be a Car and Driver editor," he says. Talk about manifesting your future. A C/D staffer for 10 years now, it's mission accomplished on that front. Not that it was a straightforward trip to Dorian's current role as both the manager of C/D's make-model page production and the editor of the print Buyer's Guide, which is prominently displayed at checkout counters across the country.AdvertisementAdvertisement"I was interested in cars from early childhood," says Dorian. "My father was a machinist," he notes.Growing up with a dad who had a facility for mechanical things led Dorian to work with him on the family's cars. As a teenager, he was gifted a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix; when the engine blew, he dug into it with his dad and younger brother. While the Grand Prix engine was under reconstruction, he picked up a Volkswagen Beetle for temporary wheels, and decided he preferred the little German economy car to the hulking Pontiac. Exit one repaired Grand Prix.Car and DriverDorian's exposure to fast, loud cars grew from his mother's job at Michigan International Speedway. "We had free passes all the time and went to so many races it finally became almost boring," he says.AdvertisementAdvertisementReading his favorite monthly car magazine never grew old, though."I grew up reading Csaba Csere's Car and Driver," says Dorian, "and I also always loved reading all the buyer's guides I could find. I loved knowing all the specs and details."Little did Dorian know that this obsession with the minutiae of every vehicle on the market was preparing him for exactly the role he has today on C/D's Buyer's Guide team.To prep for his dreamed-of life as a C/D editor, Dorian earned a degree in journalism, but the doors didn't swing open for a while. After college, he took jobs as an advisor at a debt counseling call center, sold Nissans, and was hired as a vehicle fleet coordinator at the General Motors proving grounds, where he gained insight into the world of vehicle development.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile still at GM, a fortuitous connection got him a shot at writing some freelance make-model copy for C/D's Buyer's Guide, and when the group was expanded, he was asked to join the staff. It quickly became clear that Dorian had a gift for organization, and he soon was managing the group's workflow; his "managing editor" title couldn't be more appropriate.Writing vehicle reviews, news stories, and make-model pages, editing the print Buyer's Guide, staying on top of the specs of the latest models, and managing the day-to-day production of the Buyer's Guide team, "is a combination of all the things I find satisfying," says Dorian. It's a never-ending project, he adds, and he's grateful for being able to "contribute to the legacy of something I've known my whole life." For some, working at Car and Driver is as much a calling as a job.You Might Also LikeGift Guide: Best Ride-On Electric Cars for KidsFuture Cars Worth Waiting For: 2025–2029
