As if Hyundai hadn't already made a big enough splash at the New York International Auto Show with the reveal of the Boulder SUV concept, the automaker has now teased two more wild concepts, expected to debut in the coming days. Very little information has accompanied the teasers, previewed alongside a short clip embedded at the bottom of this article, but we know they're called Venus and Earth, and that their designs will influence future Ioniq EV models. Hyundai plans to make its entire range look more cohesive without sacrificing the individuality that helps set each model apart, and these teasers appear to be the first step in a new aesthetic direction.Hyundai Venus and Earth Concepts Look Very Special Let's start with the Venus, which bears a golden finish. The teaser image shows exceptionally narrow taillights, a sloping rear end, and a subtle upturned spoiler at the rear edge. It's unknown if this previews a hatchback of sorts, a crossover, or a sedan with a fastback rear opening (think Audi A5), but the angular bodywork will be a defining feature of this new design direction. Hyundai's teaser video showed a meteorite crashing into the ground to reveal a multi-faceted jewel-like center, and this appears to suggest that the concepts will lean into a less rounded look. We don't know when the new look will be applied to a production vehicle, but this teaser suggests that the slippery style of the Ioniq 6 will be abandoned. What about the other teaser? The other concept, the Hyundai Earth, shares the jagged, sharp-edged look of a cut precious stone, and its front end shows a vertical strip of light that is segmented as it leads downward, creating a short scuttle. This calls to mind a Lamborghini, like the Vision V12 Gran Turismo. Again, it's unclear what class this concept might fall into, but it's clear that the pixel lighting of contemporary Hyundai Ioniq models will be abandoned. Fortunately, we don't have too long to wait before we get answers.New Hyundai Concepts Will Debut This Month Hyundai's Chinese website has added a countdown to a "Hyundai Ioniq Brand Launch Event" on April 10, so it appears that these concepts may be unveiled then, and with the Beijing Auto Show taking place on April 24, a public debut for these concepts seems destined to happen soon. While that may suggest that the new concepts are meant to preview offerings for the Chinese market, Hyundai intends to launch at least 36 new cars in the U.S. by 2030, and these new concepts may be the first hint at some of the upcoming products. Stay tuned, more teasers are sure to follow in the coming weeks.
