On May 18, Huawei Executive Director and BG Chairman Richard Yu released official images of the Maextro S800 Grand Design Edition on social media, confirming that the new model will officially debut in June. As a derivative version based on the Maextro S800, the Grand Design edition mainly introduces more luxurious upgrades across exterior detailing. Maextro S800 Grand Design According to the official images, the vehicle adopts a two-tone body finish called “Distant Mountain Cyan,” featuring a dark green upper body paired with a lighter lower-body color scheme. Gold elements have been added to the front fascia, wheel center caps, rear badging and side emblems, while a vertical gold trim strip has also been integrated into the center of the hood. Additional details include exclusive identification plaques positioned on the front fenders and C-pillars, while the wheels adopt a retro-inspired disc-style design with gold accents. In addition to the roof-mounted 896-line LiDAR unit, a new camera has also been added to the B-pillar area. Based on currently available information, the vehicle is highly likely to feature Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 advanced driver-assistance system. Maextro plaque In terms of powertrain options, previous filings with China’s MIIT showed that the vehicle will offer both battery electric and range-extended variants. The BEV version adopts a dual-motor setup producing maximum outputs of 160 kW and 230 kW respectively, paired with a 97 kWh battery pack. The EREV version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender combined with a tri-motor system and a 63 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, delivering a WLTC pure-electric range of 276 km. Notably, during a HIMA livestream in April, Richard Yu had already previewed the vehicle and stated directly that pricing “could reach around RMB 2 million ($294,200).” Wheels with gold accents in the Maextro S800 Grand Design Over the past year, China’s premium new energy vehicle market has increasingly expanded into the ultra-luxury segment. Models including the Yangwang U8, NIO ET9 and Zeekr 009 Grand Edition have all attempted to challenge the long-established dominance of traditional million-yuan luxury vehicles. The arrival of the Maextro S800 Grand Design reflects the same broader market trend. Last Thursday, Richard Yu revealed that the Maextro S800 recorded more than 1,100 insurance registrations in April, while cumulative deliveries have surpassed 17,000 units. The model has also ranked first in China’s above-RMB 700,000 ($102,970) ultra-luxury sedan segment for eight consecutive months.
