Huawei-backed Stelato has logged more than 15,000 pre-orders for the G9, its first off-road SUV, within 72 hours of opening presales on August 5, 2026. The tech-focused rugged luxury SUV starts at 439,800 CNY (c. $65,200) and marks Stelato's move beyond the sedan and wagon segments it has competed in since its debut. The order pace has been steep from the start. Stelato said the G9 pulled in 5,100 orders within the first two hours of presales, then crossed 10,300 within 24 hours, with the Ultra and Ultra+ trims accounting for 90% of that volume. By the 72-hour mark, total orders had grown to more than 15,000. Presale reservations carry up to 31,500 CNY (c. $4,670) in incentives, including a 5,000 CNY (c. $740) deposit that converts into a 10,000 CNY (c. $1,480) credit against the final purchase price. Stelato was created as a joint venture between Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), and until now had offered only the S9 sedan and S9T wagon. The G9 is the brand's first entry into China's crowded rugged-SUV segment and one of five model families sold under Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), alongside Aito (built with Seres, HKEX: 9927), Luxeed (built with Chery, HKEX: 9973), Maextro (built with JAC) and Shangjie (built with SAIC Motor, SSE: 600104).The presale launch fell at the same August 5 event where Maextro introduced its V680 and V800 MPVs. HIMA's combined deliveries reached 45,046 vehicles in July, down 4.92% year-on-year and 11.02% from June, making the G9's early order volume a rare bright spot for the alliance heading into the third quarter, when Stelato has said the G9 will officially go on sale.Official presale poster published August 9, 2026 (Stelato)Presale pricing spans three trims. The Max+ starts at 439,800 CNY (c. $65,200) for the five-seat configuration and 449,800 CNY (c. $66,700) for six seats, pairing a 56-kWh extended-range battery with a CLTC combined range of up to 1,271 km (790 miles). The mid-tier Ultra starts at 489,800 CNY (c. $72,600), rising to 509,800 CNY (c. $75,600) for six seats, and is the first trim to offer a battery-electric option alongside the range-extended version. The range-topping Ultra+ starts at 539,800 CNY (c. $80,000) and reaches 559,800 CNY (c. $83,000) for the six-seat, top-spec build, adding a dual-million-pixel projector headlight system, a cabin oxygen-enrichment system and a rear privacy screen. Stelato is positioning the G9 within China's 500,000-CNY-and-up large SUV segment, pitting it against the Aito M9, whose extended-range Max+ trim starts at 479,800 CNY (c. $71,100), and the Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) L9, whose Ultra trim starts at 459,800 CNY (c. $68,100). The G9 undercuts both while pairing every trim with Huawei's top-tier ADS 5 driver-assistance suite as standard equipment. All versions ride on an 800-volt architecture with a front-and-rear dual-motor four-wheel-drive system delivering 160 kW up front and 277 kW at the rear, for a combined 437 kW (586 hp). The battery-electric variant carries a 120-kWh ternary lithium pack rated for 728 km (452 miles) CLTC, while the extended-range version pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender with up to a 75.4-kWh battery for 405 km (252 miles) of CLTC electric-only range and more than 1,366 km (849 miles) combined. Every G9 ships with an L3-capable architecture built around Huawei's ADS 5 driver-assistance system and a new-generation dual-optical-path LiDAR array built on a 896-line multi-sensor fusion setup. The SUV is the first vehicle to receive a Beijing road-testing permit for Level 3 autonomous driving at speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph), and it debuts what Huawei calls the industry's first circular indicator light for its assisted-driving status.Studio photo from the G9's official launch gallery, August 5, 2026 (Stelato)The G9 measures 5,206 mm long, 2,050 mm wide and 1,897 mm tall on a 3,160 mm wheelbase, extending to 5,377 mm with an optional rear-mounted storage box. Standard ground clearance of 202 mm can rise to 282 mm on its dual-chamber air suspension, which pairs with rear-wheel steering of up to 12 degrees and a Huawei-developed adaptive differential lock for a maximum wading depth of 900 mm and a 2,000-kg tow rating.Exterior details underline the off-road positioning: chrome trim traces the D-pillar and rear tailgate, vertical circular light clusters flank an illuminated brand logo, and an optional laser projector headlight setup can cast a wide light carpet onto the ground ahead. The system also reads rain and fog in real time and automatically adjusts color temperature, which Stelato says boosts headlight penetration by as much as 66%. Buyers can choose a 2+3 five-seat layout or a 2+2+2 six-seat configuration with independent second-row captain's chairs offering ventilation, heating and massage. An optional rooftop-tent package pops up on one side to create a dual-layer sleeping structure with 2,260 liters of interior space and a 260-kg load rating, while the side-hinged tailgate extends into a fold-out table that supports onboard cooking and hot water for camping use.Marketed as HIMA's family tri-screen cockpit design language (Stelato)The cabin is built around a tri-screen cockpit spanning 12.3, 17.2 and 17.2 inches, paired with an AR head-up display and an electronic gear selector, while physical buttons remain clustered below the center display, on the center console and in the roof for climate and off-road controls.Whether Stelato can sustain that order pace once deliveries begin in the third quarter, against an already crowded field of extended-range luxury SUVs from Li Auto and Aito, plus BYD's Yangwang, which prices its off-road flagship U8 from 1,008,000 CNY (c. $149,400), will say more about the G9's staying power than its opening-weekend numbers.Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.7476 CNY as of August 9, 2026.
