Richard Yu, one of the tech giant’s executive directors, said the M9 held the title of best-selling vehicle above 500,000 yuan (74,000 USD) for two consecutive months. The NEV SUV, which is offered with pure EV and EREV powertrains, has pushed out the existing stalwarts in this segment. They include Western rivals like the Maybach GLS and Audi Q8. Many Chinese drivers now equate tech and “self-driving” prowess with luxury, which most legacy automakers still lag. While the refreshed standard M9 has already launched in China, the “Ultimate” LWB variant is currently in pre-sales, with Chinese deliveries expected to begin in September. These buyers are likely looking for bigger, more luxurious options while staying in the HIMA ecosystem. The “Ultimate” M9 gets extra luxury details, like wood trim and a backside-illuminated badge. This group of vehicles also includes sedans, crossovers, and MPVs from the Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro, and Saic brands. The Aito M9 serves as HIMA’s flagship SUV, with the “Ultimate” variant expected to attract buyers seeking more cabin space and luxury features. Richard Yu revealed these luxury-focused buyers made up another 30% of the M9’s total orders. Compared with the top-trim standard M9, these buyers will have to pay an extra 100,000 yuan (14,800 USD) for the “Ultimate” trim’s extra length and luxury items.
