Chery and Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) unveiled the Luxeed RX on August 18, 2026, then opened pre-orders in China on August 20 ahead of the electric coupe-SUV's public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21. The RX is the first HIMA model to break from Luxeed's numeric naming convention, and its size and positioning place it directly against the Xiaomi YU7, the segment's dominant seller since mid-2025.HIMA first teased the RX on Weibo on June 10, 2026, when Huawei executive director Richard Yu described it as the alliance's first letter-named model and said it would debut in fall 2026. Luxeed, the joint venture between Chery Automobile (HKG: 9973) and Huawei, already sells the R7 coupe-SUV and S7 sedan, but the RX pushes into a segment Xiaomi Corporation (HKG: 1810) has controlled since the YU7 launched in June 2025 and drew more than 200,000 locked orders within three minutes. HIMA now spans five Huawei-aligned automakers, including Seres' Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro and the newer Shangjie, each aimed at a different price band within China's electric market. Zhao framed the RX's approach as competing "not on price, but on value," and pre-order pricing confirmed that positioning, landing close to rather than below the YU7. Production is based at Chery's intelligent factory in Wuhu, Anhui province, where HIMA says pre-production verification is complete and tooling for the RX's large-scale integrated die-casting modules is already underway. The RX's styling drew scrutiny within days of the teaser. Luxeed executive Zhao Changjiang credited an unnamed "former Ferrari chief designer," a claim publicly challenged by Ferrari's PR director, Ingrid Sun, since Ferrari's chief design office has been held by the same person for more than a decade. Reports later identified the designer as Werner Gruber, who worked at Pininfarina before joining Ferrari in 2010 as a senior exterior designer on the LaFerrari, FXX-K and Portofino, and who now serves as Vice President of Design at Saleen according to a 2026 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The RX's rear fascia integrates a 鸿蒙智行 (HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility Alliance) badge beside the full-width LED light bar (Luxeed)The RX measures 5,020 mm long, 2,007 mm wide and either 1,585 mm or 1,600 mm tall depending on configuration, riding a 3,000 mm wheelbase built on Chery's "343" compact architecture paired with Huawei's Turing platform. Large-area integrated aluminum die-casting and a front double-wishbone suspension with virtual kingpin geometry pair with a five-link rear setup, dual-chamber air springs and six-piston front brake calipers. A single 277 kW rear motor or a dual-motor layout combining a 160 kW front unit with the same 277 kW rear motor, for a combined 437 kW (586 hp), power the RX. Huawei's next-generation DriveOne electric drive delivers a claimed 1-millisecond torque response, and a physical boost button built into the D-shaped steering wheel adds a temporary 10 percent torque increase. Zhao said the RX completed a lane-change maneuver above 250 km/h (155 mph) on a banked oval proving ground, with lateral acceleration approaching 1G.Huawei's next-generation "Giant Whale" battery platform underpins three announced packs, an 81.1 kWh entry unit and two packs near 100 kWh (100.256 kWh and 100.424 kWh), with the top configuration rated for up to 852 km (529 miles) of CLTC range. HIMA describes an accompanying electromagnetic thermal-control die-casting process, which it calls an industry first, as a way to manage pack temperature within the same cast structure that forms the vehicle's underbody. Regulatory filings point to a four-LiDAR sensor array, including a high-resolution forward-facing unit plus solid-state side and rear sensors, feeding Huawei's Qiankun assisted-driving system for automated valet parking and urban navigation. HIMA says a six-in-1 centralized domain-control architecture keeps decision-chain latency below 1 millisecond, and the cabin runs HarmonyOS with multi-screen connectivity and voice interaction. The RX lands just 21 mm longer than the Xiaomi YU7 but as much as 15 mm lower in its shortest configuration, and both share an identical 3,000 mm wheelbase. Xiaomi's top YU7 trim outputs 508 kW (690 hp) and covers 0-100 km/h in 3.23 seconds, ahead of the RX's 437 kW dual-motor peak, while Xiaomi's official range tops out at 835 km (519 miles) CLTC against the RX's claimed 852 km. YU7 pricing starts at 253,500 CNY (c. $37,600) for the standard rear-wheel-drive trim and rises to 329,900 CNY (c. $48,900) for the top all-wheel-drive Max version, based on Xiaomi's original June 2025 launch pricing. The RX also sits close to the Voyah Passion S, a third electric coupe-SUV riding the same 3,000 mm wheelbase; the Passion S measures 5,050 mm long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,656 mm tall, with its dual-motor all-wheel-drive version producing up to 475 kW (637 hp). As a design reference outside the segment, the RX's low body height sits within a few millimeters of the gasoline-powered Ferrari Purosangue, which measures 4,973 mm long, 2,028 mm wide and 1,589 mm tall.HIMA and Chery opened RX pre-orders on August 20 spanning three price points, from an entry single-motor variant at 229,800 CNY (c. $34,100) through a 299,800 CNY (c. $44,500) tier equipped with in-cabin LiDAR to a 359,800 CNY (c. $53,400) range-topper built around an architecture designed for L3 autonomous driving, holding pricing close to rather than below the YU7 as Zhao had signaled. HIMA has not yet disclosed which battery pack pairs with each trim, and the RX's formal China launch, where final configurations and delivery timing are expected to be confirmed, is still slated for later this fall following its Chengdu Auto Show debut. Neither company has released initial pre-order volume. The launch also lands as Luxeed's existing R7 has cooled sharply in China, with July 2026 domestic deliveries of 772 units, down 80.5 percent year over year and just 7.8 percent of Luxeed's monthly volume, compared with a November 2025 peak of 10,006 units. The YU7 delivered 10,223 units domestically in July, down 28.6 percent from June but up 69.2 percent from a year earlier.Whether Huawei's design pedigree claims and track-test theatrics can pull share back from Xiaomi's software-first appeal should become clearer once Luxeed RX order numbers and final delivery timing are confirmed ahead of the model's fall launch, particularly with pricing now locked in close to rather than below its rival.Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.74 CNY as of August 19, 2026.
