Scout Reveals Mountainside, 'Trail-Ready' ConceptsScoutThere's still a long time to wait for Scout's Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, with initial deliveries expected to start in 2028. In the meantime, the VW Group-owned company is trying to keep excitement high by introducing some new design concepts.Meet the Scout Mountainside and "trail-ready" concepts. Both are based on the SUV, but the duo showcases two different ways to outfit the Traveler.ScoutLet's start with the Mountainside concept. This Traveler is less rough-and-tumble and more about refined luxury. "Mountainside is our new concept theme that is capturing a softer side of Scout," designer Peyton Sullivan said. "We want a sense of quiet luxury that is welcoming, like the door is always open."AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Mountanside does away with the spare tire on the rear; Scout also deleted the roof rack, and instead of small wheels and big all-terrain tires, it wears large, black-painted 22-inch rims. There's a new exterior paint being shown off here, too. Scout calls it Morning Dusk, and while it may look gray in these photos, Scout says it's a charcoal brown with golden metallic highlights that reveal themselves in sunlight.ScoutThe Mountainside's interior is arguably more interesting than the exterior. Scout calls this interior the Alpine District design, and it's meant to remind you of a big log cabin. The semi-aniline leather is left in its natural, weathered state. Gray woven fabrics are designed to offer a subtle plaid pattern, and the recycled walnut trim splashed across the dash and doors is a real focal point. The coolest part of the whole inside, though, might be the houndstooth accent material seen covering the pillars and roof.ScoutThe "trail-ready" concept (above) doesn't have a formal name, though Scout referring to it as "trail-ready" is explanation enough for what the purpose of this Traveler is. Think of it as inspiration for what you could do with a Traveler should a fair amount of off-roading be in it future.Modifications include a full-metal front and rear bumper, an integrated front winch, rear tow hitch, rock rails, an elevated roof rack with integrated trail lights, and 35-inch off-road tires wrapping 18-inch beadlock wheels. Scout also tosses in a spare-tire carrier and integrated fuel caddy. (Yes, this one is most definitely the Harvester powertrain with the extended range electric/gas powertrain.)ScoutScout is just as proud about the new exterior paint on this one as the Mountainside. The new hue seen here is called Galvanized Steel, obviously inspired by its namesake. A little contrast can be found in the roof finished in a color called Canvas, which Scout used to bring some warmth back into the steely, serious design.AdvertisementAdvertisementScout pairs the metal-like exterior with a Brick Red leather interior. This red is accented by denim-inspired fabrics in areas like the upper seat surfaces, door panels and accessory straps. Look above, and this Traveler is equipped with the black Cabana Top to allow you to off-road with an uninhibited view of the sky above.Scout didn't suggest you'd be able to purchase any of the accessories seen in these concepts, but we wouldn't be surprised if that were ultimately the case.
