The latest Toyota Sequoia was first introduced for the 2023 model year. It brought multiple firsts to the largest Toyota SUV still in production, as well as retaining a few key traits and features that made it a popular choice among loyal Toyota buyers and fans who always sought out the Japanese brand for its reliability and bulletproof construction.
The Sequoia’s new powertrain represents a new era for the nameplate - V8s are gone, and the sole powertrain is a 3.4L twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid. Despite the downsizing, the hybrid V6 produces 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.
New Sequoia Has A Modern, High-Tech Interior
Improvements have also been made to the cabin and interior. This Toyota full-size SUV can seat seven to eight occupants onboard depending on the model chosen, with seven-seater Sequoia models featuring second-row individual captain's chairs for added comfort. While most third rows in SUVs tend to be compact, the third row featured in the Toyota differs with being able to seat three occupants across the entire row. Both the Toyota Sequoia and Chevrolet Tahoe feature three-row seating for maximum occupant space, large infotainment screens with digital instrument clusters, and a slew of standard safety features. However, look closely at their internals and the differences are clearer.
V8 Supremacy And Cheaper Pricing Are The Chevy’s Forte
It’s in the engine department where the Chevrolet remains the superior out of the two. Keeping with American traditions of 'bigger is better', the Tahoe is available with either a 5.3L or 6.2L gasoline V8 from GM’s Ecotec series. The Chevy is also the only one to have the option of a 3.0L Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder for additional pulling power and efficiency. Furthermore, the cheapest Tahoe, the 2025 Tahoe LS, begins at $59,000 MSRP, slightly lower than the cheapest 2025 Toyota Sequoia.
The Toyota also loses the large SUV battle when it comes to maximum cargo space, which is most apparent when comparing it to the Tahoe's cavernous 122.9 cu.ft, whereas the Seqouia trails behind at 86.9 cu.ft.

Satisfying the overlander-enthusiast crowd, both the Sequoia and Expedition are available in upgraded, off-road centered trims; specifically the Sequoia TRD Off-Road Pro and Expedition Tremor. Expedition customers can also opt for a long-wheelbase variant, the Expedition Max - the Sequoia currently has no equivalent model.
