Full-year 2025 sales of Chinese brands in Europe reached about 811,000 units, up 99% YoY, lifting market share to 6.1%. According to the latest data from Dataforce, Europe’s passenger car market—covering the European Union, the United Kingdom and the European Free Trade Association—continued to recover in December 2025, with new car registrations rising 7.6% year on year (YoY) to 1.15 million units. Driven by brands such as Chery, BYD and SAIC-owned MG, Chinese automakers’ total sales in Europe surged 126% YoY in December to 109,864 units, marking the first time their monthly sales in the region surpassed the 100,000-unit threshold. Chinese brands captured a 9.5% share of the European market in December, more than double the 4.5% recorded a year earlier and the first time the share has approached the 10% milestone. BYD’s vehicles exported from China For the full year, total vehicle sales in Europe rose 2.3% YoY to 13.3 million units in 2025. Chinese brands sold about 811,000 vehicles, up 99% from a year earlier, increasing their market share to 6.1%. At the brand level, SAIC Motor’s MG remained the best-selling Chinese marque in Europe. MG’s annual sales exceeded 300,000 units for the first time in 2025, reaching 307,282 vehicles, up 26% year on year. The ZS compact SUV was MG’s main volume driver, with 124,512 units sold. BYD posted particularly strong growth. Including its Denza brand, BYD’s Europe sales jumped 276% YoY in 2025 to 186,612 units, ranking second among Chinese brands and manifestly narrowing the gap with MG. The Seal U midsize SUV was BYD’s core model, offered in both BEV and PHEV variants. Its annual sales reached 79,407 units. Dataforce data show that the Seal U PHEV variant recorded 72,667 registrations in 2025, up tenfold, making it Europe’s best-selling PHEV in 2025. BYD Seal U Chery’s expansion in Europe was also pronounced. Jaecoo and Omoda sold 56,944 units and 52,950 units respectively, ranking as the third- and fourth-largest Chinese brands in Europe in 2025. Including 10,247 units sold under the Chery brand and 66 registrations from newly launched Jetour models, Chery Group’s total Europe sales reached 120,207 units in 2025, up 605% YoY. Polestar ranked as the fifth-largest Chinese brand in Europe, with sales rising 56% to 47,579 units. The Polestar 4 accounted for 26,316 units. When combined with fellow Geely-backed brands Zeekr and Lynk & Co, Geely Group’s total Europe sales reached 68,499 units, up 58%. Leapmotor climbed to sixth place, selling 33,567 vehicles in Europe in 2025. Its T03 battery-electric city car accounted for 20,253 units, representing more than 60% of its total sales.
