China’s pickup exports rose 15% YoY to 23,000 units in Feb, accounting for 56% of total pickup sales. Data released on March 16 by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed that the pickup market experienced a temporary slowdown in February due to the Lunar New Year holiday. However, cumulative sales for the first two months of the year still maintained growth. In February 2026, nationwide pickup sales totaled 41,000 units, down 13.2% year-on-year. Cumulative sales for January–February reached 91,000 units, up 5.3% YoY and remaining at a relatively high level compared with the same period in the past five years. Rankings of pickup sales by manufacturers for January-February 2026 On the production side, February pickup output stood at 42,000 units, down 3.1% YoY. Output for the first two months totaled 94,000 units, up 13.7% from a year earlier. The new-energy pickup segment remains at an early stage but is gradually expanding in scale. In February, sales of new-energy pickups totaled about 5,000 units, down 6% YoY and 9% from the previous month. Cumulative sales for January–February reached 11,000 units, up 5% YoY. BYD’s pickup models recorded overseas sales of 1,445 units, while Geely’s Radar electric pickups sold 1,363 units. Changan’s range-extended pickup recorded sales of 475 units. In the overall market landscape, Great Wall Motor continued to lead China’s domestic pickup market. The company sold 12,011 pickups domestically in February. SAIC Maxus, Zhengzhou Nissan, JAC Motors and Jiangling Motors also maintained relatively strong sales, delivering 4,535 units, 4,525 units, 3,657 units and 3,224 units respectively during the month. In February 2026, China exported 23,000 pickups, up 15% YoY but down 14% from January. Cumulative exports for January–February reached 50,000 units, representing a 30% increase YoY. The share of exports in total pickup sales has continued to rise in recent years. Data show exports accounted for about 45% of total pickup sales in 2024 and increased to 50% in 2025. By February 2026, the export share had climbed to 56%. As more Chinese brands expand into overseas markets, exports are increasingly becoming a key driver of growth for the domestic pickup industry.
