WeRide’s global Robotaxi fleet reached 1,023 vehicles as of January 2026. With 2,000 new units planned, the company’s operational fleet could exceed 2,600 vehicles this year. On March 9, China’s autonomous driving company WeRide and Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group announced a deeper strategic partnership and unveiled an upgraded version of the pre-installed mass-produced Robotaxi GXR. According to the plan, the model is expected to deliver 2,000 units in 2026 and will be deployed in both Chinese and overseas markets. Under the roadmap, the upgraded Robotaxi GXR is scheduled to roll off the production line in the third quarter of 2026. WeRide’s upgraded Robotaxi GXR Compared with the previous model, the new version will be equipped with WeRide’s latest-generation autonomous driving suite GEN8 and an upgraded sensor system. The vehicle’s core sensors include a new-generation lidar with a maximum detection range of up to 600 meters. Compared with current mainstream solutions, the extended detection distance significantly improves perception capability and provides more reaction time for vehicles operating at high speeds or in complex weather conditions. On the manufacturing side, the Robotaxi GXR is built on Geely Farizon’s Super VAN platform and adopts a steer-by-wire AI chassis architecture. Leveraging Geely Farizon’s manufacturing system, production efficiency for the new model is expected to increase substantially. The production cycle per vehicle is projected to be reduced from around one hour to less than 10 minutes. At the same time, overall vehicle costs are expected to decline by about 15% compared with the previous model. Signing ceremony beween WeRide and Geely Farizon for a partnership agreement The collaboration between WeRide and Geely Farizon dates back to October 2024, when the two companies unveiled the first mass-produced Robotaxi GXR built on the Geely Farizon Super VAN platform. Within about four months, the vehicle began fully driverless commercial operations in Beijing, followed by the launch of driverless commercial services in Guangzhou in August 2025. At present, WeRide’s Robotaxi services operate in multiple cities worldwide. The GXR model is already running fully driverless commercial operations in Guangzhou, Beijing and Abu Dhabi, while also maintaining regular public operations in Dubai and Riyadh. According to the plan, WeRide will launch fully driverless operations in Dubai within this month, while pilot services in Singapore are scheduled to open to the public on April 1. In terms of fleet size, as of January 2026 WeRide’s global Robotaxi fleet had reached 1,023 vehicles. If the planned 2,000 new vehicles are delivered on schedule, the company’s active fleet is expected to exceed 2,600 units this year.
