China’s pickup exports totaled 300,000 units in 2025, up 21% YoY, accounting for roughly 50% of total pickup sales. On January 15, the China Passenger Car Association released its December 2025 wholesale sales snapshot for pickup truck manufacturers in China. Data showed China’s pickup market recorded sales of 52,000 units in December 2025, up 8.8% year on year (YoY) but down 7.3% month on month (MoM), remaining near a five-year high. Full-year sales totaled 589,000 units, representing an increase of 11.8% from a year earlier. Total sales for China’s pickups in December and cumulative sales for 2025 From the supply side, pickup production reached 48,000 units in December, up 5.2% YoY and also at a mid-to-high level over the past five years. Total production for the year amounted to 575,000 units, up 14%. In terms of manufacturer performance, Great Wall Motor maintained its leading position in the pickup segment, with full-year sales exceeding 180,000 units. Supported by exports, Changan Automobile, SAIC Maxus and JAC Motors all posted relatively strong sales performance. BYD recorded full-year pickup sales of 39,466 units, up 232.3% YoY, making it the fastest-growing automaker on the list. Sales ranking of pickups for automotive brands in 2025 Exports continued to serve as a key pillar of the pickup market in 2025. Nationwide pickup exports reached 28,000 units in December, up 12% YoY. Although down 7% MoM, volumes remained at elevated levels. For the full year, pickup exports totaled 300,000 units, up 21% YoY, accounting for roughly 50% of total pickup sales. Exports of domestically branded Chinese pickups continued to accelerate, showing solid growth momentum. NEV pickups emerged as the most notable source of incremental growth during the year. Sales of new-energy pickups stood at 6,000 units in December, down 3% YoY and down 30% MoM, mainly due to a higher year-end comparison base and structural adjustments. Sales ranking of pickups for automotive brands in December 2025 Looking at the full year, cumulative sales of NEV pickups from January to December reached 73,000 units, up 243% YoY, significantly outperforming the overall pickup market growth rate. By model, leading new-energy pickup sellers in December included the Geely Radar electric pickup with 2,092 units, BYD pickups with 1,200 units mainly for overseas markets, Zhengzhou Nissan with 1,081 units, Changan range-extended pickups with 753 units, and JMC new-energy pickups with 285 units. Other brands also began to reach a certain scale. The CPCA said that as China’s domestic NEV pickup market takes shape and market cultivation progresses, the country’s pickup segment is expected to expand rapidly to meet both domestic and overseas demand.
