On April 9, CATL announced that it had signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Guangzhou Public Transport Group in Ningde, Fujian. The two parties will deepen collaboration across battery supply and maintenance, recycling and reuse, battery swapping networks, vehicle-to-grid (V2G), electric vessels, and the low-altitude economy. Signing ceromony between CATL and Guangzhou Bus Group CATL will provide high-safety, long-life battery products for Guangzhou Public Transport and jointly build an after-sales service system, promoting full lifecycle closed-loop management from installation to retirement. At the same time, the two sides will jointly plan a battery swapping network for taxis in Guangzhou, offering diversified energy replenishment solutions, while also expanding into emerging sectors such as electric vessels and the low-altitude economy. Since 2025, CATL has supplied 1,500 pure electric buses to Guangzhou Public Transport Group, including 424 hydrogen fuel cell buses, as well as power systems for three electric vessels. The partnership has also resulted in the construction of six battery swapping stations. During the 15th National Games, buses equipped with CATL’s Tianxing batteries handled more than 300 high-frequency daily trips, completing a total of 4,289 journeys and transporting 75,700 passengers, reducing carbon emissions by 77 tonnes. Guangzhou buses Since Guangzhou Public Transport Group achieved electrification, the city’s public transport energy consumption has been reduced by 50%, with cumulative carbon emissions cut by more than 1 million tonnes.
