The service centres, to be operated directly by CATL, will employ robotic automation to perform diagnostics and repairs and aim to reduce repair times to 72 hours or less. At the battery giant’s “Ning Day 2026” event in Haikou, China, CATL announced that 8 directly-run “Ning Service” centres had begun operations across China, as well as 2 international centres in Norway and Istanbul. It is also responsible for servicing 1,505 battery swap stations in CATL’s Choco-SEB ecosystem. The brand says it aims to break the “replacement-only” cycle of EV repairs with “targeted precision repairs”. Cell-to-pack repairs While new-energy vehicle (NEV) sales are booming in China, the battery repair network is still maturing. Small gouges or dents may result in a written-off pack or even a totalled car, with drivers ultimately footing the bill through increased insurance premiums. CATL was one of the first major battery makers to roll out cell-to-pack (CTP) repair services, in which individual battery cells are replaced rather than the entire battery pack. Inside one of Ning Service’s repair centers. It founded “Ning Service” in late 2024 and established its first directly-run service centre in Shanghai one year later. CATL also established “service experience centers” in Bangkok, Thailand and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2025. CATL pledged to slash repair costs 10-fold, from 100,000 to 10,000 yuan (14,800 to 1,480 USD). The repair service, however, was initially exclusive to NEVs equipped with CATL batteries. CATL and“Ning Service” say that their latest service centres are open to all NEVs and now employ automated processes to speed up repairs. The firm says its repair-line robots can cut, paint, and apply adhesive to battery packs without human intervention. ”Ning Service” claims to be a forerunner in China’s EV repair industry, having taken part in the formation of over 70 domestic standards. It also says that with its latest repair centres, “Ning Service” can now provide repairs for 76.8% of NEV models sold in China, up from 47% previously. Both CATL and ”Ning Service”, however, have not disclosed any specific pricing plans for repairs, possibly hinting at case-by-case pricing for different NEV models and failures. It is also unclear how both parties will repair NEVs equipped with cells from non-CATL sources. Ning Service’s mobile repair trucks ”Ning Service” also demonstrated its fleet of NEV repair trucks at CATL’s event. These mobile repair trucks are pure EVs, rated for up to 800 km of range. The brand claims that its trucks can perform “30 diagnostic items” and carry out “50 kinds of repairs”, though it is unclear what these items actually are. The mobile repair trucks can cover up to 90% of “non-deep-repair scenarios”, and ”Ning Service” claims that they can reduce the time needed for repairs from 72 to 48 hours. CarNewsChina expects these basic repair items to include tasks such as connector replacement, electrical & weather insulation, water ingress protection, and BMS inspection. More complex tasks, such as complete cell replacement, cell-level disassembly, or pack refurbishment, may require a dedicated service centre. More on CATL According to China EV DataTracker, CATL is China’s largest battery maker, with 32.59 GWh of installed capacity in June 2026. It has a 43.2% market share in its domestic market. It’s also the world’s largest battery maker, supplying cells to both Chinese and international automakers. Market share of China’s top 10 battery makers in June 2026. Source: China EV DataTracker While NEV ownership is on the rise both in China and worldwide, some prospective buyers still have concerns regarding battery lifespan, degradation, and repairs. Offering a mature after-sales ecosystem would help alleviate these fears, and it’s evident that CATL is expanding into this business-to-consumer (B2C) niche as well.
