Such stations can charge a battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, providing up to 1,500 kW DC per connector. BYD’s flash chargers were launched on March 5, 2026. Officials of the Shenzhen-based automaker shared a goal of creating the nationwide “Flash Charging China” infrastructure. BYD planned to build 20,000 flash chargers in China by the end of 2026, including 2,000 chargers on highways. On April 1, BYD installed the 5,000th flash charger in China, covering 297 cities across China. It was an impressive leap for just 27 days. However, the development pace of the charging network slowed shortly after. On May 5, BYD built the 5,715th flash charger in Inner Mongolia. On May 17, the 5,979th station was installed in China. In the past month, BYD built 703 chargers. So, BYD had completed 33.4% of its flash-charging installation target as of June 17. In H2 2026, the company needs to launch 13,318 chargers. It would be a challenging task to accomplish, given the current installation pace. On June 9, the Chinese automaker built the first 1,500-kW charging station in Germany. The first flash charger was also installed in the UK. According to the brand’s Executive VP, He Zhiqi, BYD plans to establish 300 flash chargers in the Middle Kingdom by the end of 2026. Only new BYD models equipped with the second-gen Blade Battery can effectively charge at flash chargers. Previously, CITIC Securities’ analysis showed that monthly sales of such cars will increase to 20,000 – 30,000 units, which is projected to account for 30% of BYD’s annual sales. China EV DataTracker shows that BYD sold 376,990 units globally in May 2026. The current lineup of the BYD models with flash charging includes the Yangwang U7, the Denza N9, the Fang Cheng Bao Ti3, the Fang Cheng Bao Ti7, the BYD Seal 07, the BYD Great Tang, the BYD Sealion 06, the BYD Song Ultra EV, the Denza Z9 GT, the Yangwang U8L, the BYD Han EV, and the BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3).
