The latest concept car from Volkswagen is an electric Jetta. In fact, it's a Jetta that is a boxy, rugged SUV, and that looks like it could have three rows of seats. Has the world gone mad? Not if your view of the world starts in China. VW Not Gonna Give It To Ya Volkswagen Group This concept vehicle is called the Jetta X. It was styled by the head of Volkswagen's global design team and aimed at China, where VW has an entire sub-brand named Jetta. In that sense, this concept isn't a Jetta X by Volkswagen, but rather, an X concept by Jetta. As a brand, Jetta is owned by Volkswagen and China's FAW Group. And you thought Audi/AUDI was bad.Volkswagen Group The purpose of the Jetta X concept is to launch a new design language that the company calls "Modern Robust." VW design boss Andreas Mindt describes it, saying "its exterior expresses a clear and confident character through strong proportions, precise surfaces and a modern robust presence." He said that this will establish the future of Jetta brand design.Jetta will launch four new energy vehicles – what China calls PHEV and EV power – by 2028, and the first one will hit the market this year. It will likely get a better name than just X when it hits the market, but a model that looks something like this will arrive soon along with a new brand logo. New Jetta EV Will Be Below $15,000 Volkswagen Group Jetta now sells two sedans and three crossovers. They all have styling that's vaguely familiar as Volkswagen, but with a slightly different front grille that's unique to the brand. This new design will help set them apart from VW's other offerings in the country. This will be an entry-level model, though it looks larger and more premium. The target price is said to be around 100,000 yuan, or just under $15,000.At the same event, VW CEO Oliver Blume announced "Agentic AI for all." It's a follow-up to VW's attempts at "E-Mobility for all" and "ADAS for all," and will put VW's AI agent into all of its vehicles developed in China soon. This will start in the second half of 2026 on all of VW's CEA platform models, and will jump to the new CEA 2.0 next year. The new Jetta X Concept Car was revealed along with several other VWs we don't think will ever hit the road in the US. The list included the ID. Unyx09, an all-electric sedan from joint venture Volkswagen Anhui, The ID. Aura T6, developed with XPeng, and the Audi E7X, which is the second AUDI-branded vehicle and the first SUV to get that badge. Will VW sell this model, or one that looks like it, in the US? We highly doubt it. Would Volkswagen sell a crossover wearing the Jetta name in the US? We wouldn't doubt that one for a minute.
