In conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration, Suzuki Malaysia together with AFY Mobility Industries (AMI) recently organized the AMI–Suzuki 2026 Safety Campaign in Klang. This serves as a continuous initiative to enhance road safety awareness and foster a more responsible riding culture among road users in Malaysia. The campaign commenced with a welcoming speech by Mr. Ahmad Faez Yahaya, Executive Chairman of AFY Mobility Industries, who emphasized Suzuki Malaysia’s responsibility as a motorcycle manufacturer, assembler, and distributor to ensure that every product on the road prioritizes safety aspects. He also explained that the new Suzuki models, AFAZ and MODA under the AMI group, are now equipped with brighter LED lighting systems, aimed at improving visibility levels and reducing the risk of accidents. This commitment forms the foundation of today’s campaign, which offers the public a free 16-point motorcycle safety inspection, covering critical components such as the lighting system, brakes, tires, chain, and the overall roadworthiness of the motorcycle. Also supporting this initiative, Datuk Wee Hong, Chairman of the Malaysia Motorcycle & Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA), emphasized that the association and industry players bear a significant responsibility to ensure all motorcycles and scooters distributed to consumers are safe for use on the road. He also called on riders to always check the condition of their motorcycles before starting their journeys, especially during festive seasons which typically see an increase in the number of vehicles on the road. Meanwhile, Datuk Jazmanie, Deputy Director General (Planning and Operations) of the Road Transport Department (JPJ), shared concerning statistics, noting that the number of vehicle registrations in Malaysia has now exceeded the country’s population. This situation contributes to traffic congestion and increasingly narrow road space, particularly in major cities. He also informed that over 80 percent of road accident cases involve motorcycle riders, and nearly 50 percent of those involve individuals aged between 16 and 25 years. According to him, the loss of these young individuals is deeply saddening as they are the nation’s assets and future. Although various initiatives have been implemented by the government, individual awareness and responsibility remain the most crucial factors, in line with this year’s campaign theme, “Safety Starts With Us.” As part of the corporate social responsibility and safety education element, the event also saw the presentation of helmets to 30 children aged four to six from Klang, as an effort to cultivate safety awareness from an early age. Additionally, helmets and safety jackets were also presented to four attendees as an encouragement for safe riding practices. The program continued with an exhibition tour session involving business partners and campaign sponsors. With the support of AEON Credit Malaysia and Tokio Marine Insurance, nearly 200 helmets and 200 safety jackets were distributed to participants who underwent the 16-point safety inspection, thereby reinforcing collective efforts in improving the safety standards of motorcycle riders in Malaysia. Through the AMI–Suzuki 2026 Safety Campaign, Suzuki Malaysia and AFY Mobility Industries reaffirm their continuous commitment to cultivating road safety culture, especially leading up to the festive season, through close cooperation with government agencies, industry associations, and the general public.
